Does anyone know of any reasonable hotels in the area? I am toying with the idea. However, I've got some days approved in August. Was going to go see Seinfeld at Caesar's Palace. Can't do both. Jerry may win. That would be just after my birthday, too.

Gosh, Let me know how Jerry makes his slushies;)

(I'm trying to influence you to travel the 300 miles further west.)

I'll only inspect legs when allowed......

Hi everyone.:D AmberLee and I have just booked our flight and hotel rooms. We'll be arriving at LAX airport on Fri. July 15th at 3:27pm and we'll be staying at the Furama Hotel for two nights which is 4 miles from LAX. We'll be leaving on Sunday and our flight is at 5pm. I can't wait.:D

Tracey, this is all getting way to exciting. Just wait until Gini gets back tomorrow. She's going to have to start a head count.

Kelly???? How about another Kelly Kountdown??? :D

This is crazy....

I was thinking about how I was in Gini's back yard and said to .her, " We have twelve months to plan the next BBQ.."

gini
05-12-2005, 10:42 PM
And ten months have "escaped" - As of Monday there are two months left until the BBQ.

I will post a request for a roll-call and get down to business with some serious planning.

Richard - your name is on the list to help plan...........slushies will be served to the planning committee.:D

Hey...psstttt!!!! In 4 days...it'll be 2 months from now!!! WOOHOO!!!!

OK....I know I should leave this to Gini, but I think you'll all agree that I need a distraction!! ;)

What are everyones plans??? When are you flying in? How long are you staying? What's on your list of "must see/do"?

I know lots of people have different plans, so it'll be good to see what everyone wants to do.

My plans:

Friday night - await my houseguests (Karen & Aaron)
Saturday - drive to LA for the BBQ
Saturday night - stay in an LA hotel with Karen, Aaron and Staci
Sunday - Disneyland??
Sunday night - stay in a hotel down by Disneyland
Monday - tattoo/piercing/shopping day
Monday night - go home....

slick

Exactly 60 days from now, I will be 30,000 ft up in the air.....that's the only thought that's keeping me going at the moment....

Slick, I don't mean to laugh - but the way you put that, it sounds as though you are being "launched" or something!

I was going to and am... :)

my original plan was...driving down there on saturday for BBQ then stay over at a friend's until the next day and go back home before or after dizzyland but he hasn't have answered to my email...so I wonder if I could join you, the pink gals? :) if no extra room, that's fine..can see you on the next day at dizzyland if I have enough in my pocket to go! I want to...

by the way...why not have anyone answer my mug ideas?! are we gonna still do this? I hope so! :)

RICHARD

My mug is too disturbing to folks....I have to look at it everyday....

;)

krazyaboutkatz
05-14-2005, 01:38 AM
I was also wondering if we were still going to do the mug idea.

AmberLee and I will be flying down together and we'll arrive Friday afternoon at 3:27pm at LAX airport if the plane is on time. We'll be staying at the Furama Hotel which is 4 miles from LAX. We'll probably try to hook up with some Pet Talkers later on that evening and maybe have dinner with them.

On Sat. we'll probably have breakfast at the hotel. It looks like they have a good breakfast buffet. Then we'll probably hang out until it's time to go to Gini's for the BBQ. We'll need a ride to her house too. We'll also need a ride back to our hotel.

On Sun. we don't have any plans yet but we'll be flying back to San Jose at 5pm. We won't be going to Disneyland.

I haven't confirmed all of this with AmberLee so that's the reason I keep saying probably.;)

It is time to do some serious planning for the BBQ. Just yesterday I started purchasing items some of the supplies.

I am going to try to prepare a schedule to plug in the various times when people are arriving - and who I can pick up and who I cannot.

I just came into LAX and because our ride never showed up - we had to take a taxi. The cost was $38.00 plus a $2.50 surcharge and that didn't include any tip for the driver. So it isn't inexpensive to get around.

Tracey - where is the Furama Hotel? I am not familiar with it.

I am not sure who had the idea originally for mugs - or who was going to do it. But count me in if someone is going to organize having them made.

Could I have a roll call please - of who is going to attend?

I have to go back a few pages - I think either Slick or Kelly had already prepared one.

I wish the BBQ was today - because my back yard is at its prettiest right now. All of my agapanthas are in bloom and also all of my cymbidiums..........but they will be gone by July.

I am getting very excited about July 16th!!

The Furama is very close to the airport. I think the actual city is Playa del Rey...next to Marina del Rey.

Sorry, I try not to post when I'm blisteringly angry, but I can't hold it.

I have asked REPEATEDLY not to have my real life name posted on-line or linked with my screen name. I know some people don't care, but I do and find this very rude. Frankly I don't think this is necessary and would like for the posters to modify their posts.

AmberLee, let me be the first to apologize. I have edited my post.

I have seen others refer to you by your real name in other posts so I didn't think anything of it. For example, your birthday thread from last year.

I did not see any mention of not calling you by your real name. At any rate, I am truly sorry and I will respect your wishes from now on.

I have p/m'd Gina's Ark, Inc. and asked her to edit her post as well.

I don't think she was aware of your request and this is unfortunate - but not intentional on her part, I am sure.

In the meantime - my head count is hovering around 25............
-ooopps, forgot myself - make that 26.

I've known about this for quite a while now and I guess I should have informed everyone and posted about this on this thread. I'm glad that it's been posted now so it won't happen again.

Gini, the address to the Furama Hotel is 8601 Lincoln Blvd. Los Angeles,CA 90045. I hope this is fairly close to your home.:)

Please count me in as a "for sure". I have my plane ticket but haven't reserved a room yet. I'm not sure how far from LAX Gini is; sorta thought I'd stay away from Dizzyland, since I don't plan to go there and the closer to it, the higher the prices (I'm assuming).

I'm arriving around midnight on Thursday and leaving at midnight on Monday. No plans in between except the barbecue. Suggestions welcome.

I'm sorry if I did this again too. I just forget sometimes, I promise I don't mean to be rude. I know its very important to you...I"m sorry if I caused you any pain. :( :( :(

I'll try even harder in the future to make sure I don't use your name.

Thank you for making the correction, Slick. Previously I've PMed people who have used my real name here and requested them to stop/modify their posts. Some have complied with my request and some didn't. My real name is slightly unusual and I've been tracked down and pestered in the past (twice) by some somewhat spooky peoples -- once last autumn by a guy who spooked me badly by linking several of my online personna and trying to find me in real life. (Didn't Mark Twain have a wry comment about a burnt cat never sitting on the stove again, whether it was turned on or not??? I'm that cat, apparently.)
This morning was ... challenging ... and I over-reacted badly. Sorry to blow up like that.

And thanks to all for future consideration. I want to be know here as AmberLee, PLEASE.

Per Yahoo maps, Gini is about a half hour drive from LAX. It's the closest major airport so far as I could find.

Oddly enough, my experience is that there are so many hotels/motels around Disneyland that the competition keeps the costs down. But the drive (as best I remember) is a pretty long one.

Furama Hotel has free shuttle service to and from LAX. Deals can still be made for a room with two double beds for approx $72 nightly. "FURama" gotta love it ;) Just went to "Orbitz", prices right now are $59 nightly. It sounds like a very safe, clean, all amenity hotel.

gini
05-16-2005, 09:39 AM
Laurie, bless you, you are way ahead of me. I looked up the FURama Hotel too - just to find out its location. Tracey thanks for the address - and Amberlee, you are right - it is about one half hours drive from my home and near the beach.

Mruffruff - how exciting that you will be coming too. The hotels tend to be expensive here - and the motels all seem to be in a bad area that I hesitate to recommend to anyone.

Maybe you could look into getting a room at the FURama too.

If you find other accommodations, let me know, and I can tell you at least the area it is in.

what's our BBQ color-theme will be??

and any time we would have to leave?

I know I had brought up the idea of having mugs made early in this thread. I would need to know how many people would like to purchase one, so I can make a bulk order for the cheapest price. We also need to decide what to put on them and what style of mug everyone would be happy with...

Thoughts, suggestions welcome :)

I can answer one.....It's when the bartender has enough....

--------------------------------------------------

That story goes back to last year when we (Gini, Slick and I)
were tossed from the bar at Slick's hotel.

We weren't misbehaving or rowdy....It was just late....

But, it sounds VERY bad If we just say we were tossed out...:D

By the way, the FURama Hotel also has free shuttle s to Ventura Beach, right down the road. It would be a dang shame to be that close and not dip your toes in the ocean (not to mention the experience of people-watching along the sea wall) Check out the toe polish ;)

Mary, this is a joke leftover from last year's BBQ - but if you ask Laurie really nicely - I bet she would share some (or one) of her mattresses. She had quite a collection last year.

It is a long story - we can share it with you when you arrive.

Also, I started thinking about last year and including spouses there were 12 Pet Talkers including myself last year.

This year my guest list is up to 27 at last count. Is that exciting or what?

My neighborhood will never be the same!!:D :D

Bought my ticket yesterday. My cuz worked out a roundtrip, non-stop (to LA anyway) ticket - returning from San Diego as requested for a total of $294.10, all taxes duties etc. included. Now that's a deal! Don't forget - all that are flying in - there are free shuttles to most hotels. Check with ground transportation or the hotel of choice. LA traffic can be wicked. We've got friends who live in some LA suburb that I can't remember the name of right now, but we passed it when we flew into LA and then headed South ( so much for my brain power this morning  ). As much as I would love to say yes - if 27-28 people all brought their pets - or even 5 - 10 people - it would be too much for my backyard - and certainly asking a lot of the pets.

This is my home and the backyard is big enough for all of you, but not for pets too.

I see everyone is ready for this BBQ!

I've been searching for a reasonable room and came up with 3 possibilities. I'm not looking for luxurious accomodations; I can handle not-so -good neighborhoods. Can someone aim me in the right direction of these three?

Quality Inn, 1901 W. Olympic 90006 $68
Comfort Inn , 1710 W. 7th 90017 $60
Hollywood Downtowner, 5601 Hollywood Blvd 90026 $73

No transportation to/from LAX, but I'll figure that out later.

(gals & guys, I now don't know if I will go... :( two mystery friends who said they could go, now said 'no'. I still hope to find someone who can come because I'll be driving all way down there and back alone! I love driving but you know, for my safety..)

gini or anyone, do you know how to mix up a virigin pina colada? I can't have slushies...and can bring stuff for pinas! (they're soooooo heavenly!!) and maybe I'll be brining food-coloring for our pina coladas, for anyone else who wants it too! ;)

It's gone! :D That stuff is sooo weird! It's kind of like the stuff you buy in the bottle at the drug store, but it's way more potent - meaning you turn a lot browner after just one application! After we got back from vacation I was turning splotchy because some of the darker skin was sloughing off and other skin wasn't, so I took a good long hot tub with some oil in the water, and then loofaed the rest off - glad that's over with! ;)

LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL.......

First of all,
Costco is a HUGE bulk store....everything is sold in volume...you can buy cases of soda, blocks of cheese (talk about constipation!!) and tons of other stuff....There are people giving free samples on every aisle of the store....

You do need a membership card to enter and purchase....but it's safe to say that you could walk about this store and gain about 50 pounds on the freebies.....

Now, how to get tossed out of the store, while purchasing stuff for the BBQ?????

ask nicely, and I'll tell............

This is a task I do NOT like to do. Don is much better at it. However, right now I have the time to do so.....

I tend to mess it up (according to Don...;) ) so I thought I would be careful yesterday.

I pick up the grocery list and saw two coupons on the counter (I never used a coupon until I met Don)....so I figured that meant I was suppose to get those items.

Baffled....nonethless I bought the package of Mega rolls of toilet paper and the box of butt wipes.

I put them in his bag (along with...once again the WRONG deodorant...)

It seemed those coupons had been in the newpaper and he tossed them aside before a quick read of the front page.

So... I can supply the Mega rolls and butt wipes if you really need them.

Big banger bid beaten

A bid to grill the world's largest sausage failed after gale force gusts put paid to attempts to light a giant barbecue.

Eighty cooks from Leipzig in Germany had created a 333 metre long sausage that required 294 grills laid end to end to cook it.

But after the first few grills had been lit the strong winds scattered the burning charcoal, causing the risk of a fire, and forcing the cooks to call off the world record attempt.

Gini was NOT being rude in her post at all, she was merely stating a fact that if anyone wants some information, she should provide it. After all, it's at HER home, so who better to provide the info???? You have NO right to call us rude, especially Gini. Yes, maybe it's a good thing that you are staying away if you feel that way. slick, I'm sorry you had to bring me back to this.

yes, I see gini was stating the fact but after I only wanted answer cass's question? this BBQ isn't a secret and the date was posted a long time ago then cass only needed a one simple answer she has been waiting for two/three days and then it's like gini was saying I shouldn't help. it was just a bit harsh for me.

why harsh? "I don't think I shouldn't say anything more" was where I wanted to stop but you spitted it out so I'll spit out the truth now. I've been holding this for too long anyway.

as for gini, have never responsed to my PMs about a month and half or so ago and ever about needing her shoulder while I was in the hospital and you don't consider it a bit rude at all? then she was telling us to 'feel free'... she knows.

and I got two PMs from two people, said that I should not be going to the BBQ awhile ago. also there's a couple of others who have said bad things to/about me. all of them are posting as well as in here. so the truth, I'm not being invited. why? do I understand why? no.

sorry guys if I have pointed at some of you by saying "you people" but I didn't want to say the names, making them look bad is last thing I needed. just that a few of you here know what we are/I'm talking about. you see, cass, maya&inky and many others wouldn't take this personally, get upset at me, etc., but you did, slick...before you could ask, and I wonder why.

I don't know what this woman's problem is as she's the one who has all this started and made me look bad without having me say a word to anybody else then I just got tired of trying to be nice, waiting for their p/m responses before. I don't understand why I'm treated like this at all. you always can stick with your friends but I have known the truths. I beg this not to continue in here...that's why PM system are invented. I can't care if others don't.

thank you.

How do you know Slick was the only one upset at you? She was just the only one that expressed it. Gini is one of her best friends. If someone called my best friend rude, I'd be annoyed too. I don't see in one single place where Gini even made it sound like you shouldn't help -- you told Cass the date, and then Gini said explained that she couldn't answer because she is busy working, and people can PM her if they want answers and she will reply when she can --- How is this directly related to you? I thought your comment about them "wiping their butts" was alot more rude...If Gini was rude to you in PMs, it's irrelevant. Sorry to continue an argument, but now you're talking to one of MY friends.

Wish I could make it. :( I might make it there next year, if there's another meeting? I'll be entering my pup in the first LA or Gonzales NALC show I can get him/her in to -- hopefully it'll be around the same time as the meeting. I'm going to go on the NALC site and check next year's dates, see if they are up yet. Then again, I may have to work so it may just be my handler going down there -- I'm not sure she'd like to go to a meeting. :p But it'd be great if I could make it. Slick always tells me what fun you guys have and it sounds like such a good time. Maybe Slick and I can fly down together next year.

I reread my posts, realized I could misunderstood people with my comments to slick with "this woman who started all", I was not talking about slick. and again, wanted to clarify this -- I was not only pointing at gini. I got a PM that I should back off since I was not going right after I answered cass's question. I had no idea what I did do to this person, we never talked with each other except posting in each other threads not a while ago.

hmm, I liked the word, viper...yeah, we some should watch out for vipers. vipers usually snap at others for no reason. they can be so sly.

I'll leave this thread now so I'd not keep bringing this thread down.

Gina,

Surely telling someone the date of the gathering was not out of line at all. It is public information for all to read right here in this thread. That person who pm'd you must either have been having a bad day or must be a really unhappy person. Don't let it get you down. Cass shouldn't have had to wait 2 days for a response to her question and I was tempted to answer her myself (glad I didn't now :o).

I know this thread is none of my business since I'm not going, but I didn't think Gina should feel bad because she answered Cass' question. Oh, but Gina, I did think your other comment (about the butt wiping) was out of line :o So maybe that is why some had a negative reaction to the post?

Just trying to help from a neutral point of view!

aly, that wasn't the first PM from her. she kept on p/emailing me and I asked her to leave me alone. as well as who she befriends with others and these who have been talking, harssing me. I haven't let them pull me down (almost two months now) but I got fed up.

yeah, "wiping butts" probably was the reason but I joked because everybody has been joking about it. and to be honest, "they think they're giving us laughs" was out of my pity (em, I hope I'm using right word) because of my questions/PMs hasn't been answered either in this thread until a week or so later while the thread has fired away and mostly because of the PMs/emails I've been getting from BBQ pet talkers. and they ignored cass, continued on laughing(talking/joking)..it can be annoyed.

I'm sorry if it was because of my joke but slick, jordan, kelly, laurie still had no right to 'throw slushies' at me especially not after I've said A word to them (except "please leave me alone"), in here or out of this site. I wish but I guess I'll never know what their (and gini's) problem is.

thank you aly for making this a little bit lighter.

A viper? Isn't that a car - a Dodge Viper?

Or maybe that is what you clean your windshield with -
a viper.

I wasn't around much today BECAUSEEEEEE - I was doing some things for the BBQ! Almost ready.

I thought I better get outta here - G. W. Bush is coming to Copenhagen on the 5th!! So I've gone and done it, yes indeed, I've booked the ticket to ...
.
.
.
.
... sunny California! 6th of July is the fatal date, and I’ll be staying all of two weeks. (it will probably seem like much longer, Sara!)

I’ll be arriving about 17.00 hours in SNA , worn out - but hopefully avoiding too many discussions with the customs etc. When I've had a good nights sleep, don’t be surprized if I get an unhealthy urge to wander downtown and mingle with the natives. I may even be able to force a couple of drinks down my parched throat.

Lock up your children, restock the bar, whatever you do, you can't stop me now!

Well that’s it – you have been warned! ;) I'm so looking forward to meeting you all!! :D

I'm familiar with John Wayne airport, and LAX.. where the heck is SNA? What is SNA? I'm pretty good with acronyms but don't want to start speculating about that one :o It just may get me in more trouble ;)

OMD, I just did a search and look what I found  SANTA ANA WINDS "those hot dry [winds] that come down through the mountain passes and curl your hair and make your nerves jump and your skin itch. On nights like that every booze party ends in a fight. Meek little wives feel the edge of the carving knife and study their husbands' necks. Anything can happen." :D

SNA is also known as John Wayne Airport or Orange County Airport (it can be very confusing because different airlines use different names so I never know where to look on the monitor.)

It is behind the Orange Curtain!!!!
