Hello again. I'm the person who wrote about the quarter horse/appaloosa cross. If your wondering Johnny is fine. If your wondering what he looks like there is a quarter horse named Ace on February 20, 2000 that looks exactly like Johnny Noname. If you know the basics on breaking a horse, be sure to let me know.

I don't know much about this, cuz i never had a horse, but i'll give you practical advice.
Treat it lovingly, don't call it "breaking".
Call it gentling. When it does something good give it a couple sugar cubes or pieces of carrot or another treat. Be friendly, always touch it, make physical contact. Talk to it if you want it to know you and bond with you.
When the first part of gentling starts, don't let him know what's up, pet him and sweettalk
him. Keep petting him, but move all over his body and make sure you pet all of him and be careful on tickly spots. After petting, give him a treat. Always be friendly (duh).
If he makes a mistake, snap in front of his face and shout No! at the same time. This purpose is to scare him, not hurt him. Make sure he knows it's wrong. Good luck! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

Hmmmm... horse gentling my mare might be having a baby next spring, so I will be going through the same thing, how old is Johnny? By the time a horse is a yearling they should let you brush them while tyed up, and they should be able to be lunged it is hard to train a horse when they can't be lunged. Is Johnny still a little stallion or is he gelded?

Johnny is only about 2-3 years old so he is young. He is very gentle. He loves people. I wan't to know how to break him to RIDE him. I'm not worried about gentling. He's just about the gentlest horse I know, besides the fact that he is a nipper. He will follow you around like a dog when your in the field. He's got about 2 or 3 years until he's a stallion.

If you don't know that much about horses I suggest you get help. Start out by lunging him with and with out a saddle.
