Okay, don't think I’m a bad Meowmie but...Nipo doesn’t have a cat bed. :o
She's always had scratching post type furniture (towers, perches, etc.) but nothing soft to curl up in. We did buy her a bed once, some basic model from Costco, but she never used it and we decided to return it. My parents weren't willing to buy another after that experience but now I have managed to convince them that she needs one for Christmas. :D I've noticed recently that she often sleeps curled up in a little ball like this...
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v84/kmillen/Nipo/Nipoinaball.jpg
When I see her like that I wish she could be curled up in something soft! So I'm thinking one of those deeper cup-like beds with soft sides and a nice padded bottom would be something she would really use and enjoy. However, I also know she is finicky and so I was hoping for some specific recommendations. I'm especially interested to hear about a cat bed that older cats like, as I think kittens can sometimes be a little less discriminating than the fogies. ;) Also it doesn't need to be *particularly* warm as I live in a warm climate.
*looks at Nipo* She's curled up in a ball right now! Makes me feel guilty...:(
Thanks in advance for any recommendations/ideas/advice! :)

These seem to be very popular with the PT cats (and I've finally found a place here that sells them too) :)

I make mine their beds Just find a big fluffy pillow and get some fleece (Amy prefers RED fleece) and wrap it around the pillow (if you don't sew) and won't cost a lot if she don't like it...

my kitties like the beds you can crawl into..like a dome bed, tent, or igloo. The cup-like beds also work wonders.

what about a simple purr pad?
Kylie loves them.

A cat bed?
There is a joke about an 800 pound gorilla.
It goes like this..
Where does an 800 pound gorilla sleep??
Anywhere HE wants too.
Sooooooo,
Where does a 20 pound cat sleep?
;)
----------------------------------------------
The best cat bed is...........
In the sunshine.
On top of me.
In a box.
On a chair.
On the floor.
At my feet.
In front of a fireplace.
On my recliner...
Where ever gravity wins.
Or
Where you can watch one of the most efficient sleeping machines
on the planet.

RICHARD's right. I've bought my cats beds, tents, kitty sacks, you name it. Where do they sleep??? Anywhere BUT the beds, tents, kitty sacks, you name it. I bought them a bed recently that was really nice and thick. I put it in front of the heater duct so they could be warm. I even sprayed it with catnip spray. Guess where it is now. Back on the shelf at the store. They didn't go near it except to get high off the catnip spray.
I give up. *sigh*

You,I think,would be better off,getting a smal daybed,or a loveseat,used,as I have found,that The Found Catys,like a lot of space,and most CatBeds,are tooo small.

I have cat beds all over the place, but the kitties still prefer human beds, couches, chairs, the floor. The kittens do still use a "carpet condom" just like what UniqueViking posted and they start at about $10 at most any store - WalMart, PatsMart, etc.

The other type that gets used quite a bit is Eliot's bed. It is a soft fleece with a dome- best on a high place:):

but the VERY favorite bed:

I have to agree with everyone here. Mishi and Mitzi's favorite "bed" is mine or the leather loveseat. Mishi does sleep in his carpet-condom (a LARGE one) sometimes and Mitzi sleeps on the purr-pad on her window pedestal, but most of the time we share.

Just thought of this...........
Any plastic shopping bag of cardboard box will do......
As a matter of fact, if you put a large box on the floor and empty it, I guarantee your cat will walk over, look inside and climb inside....

All of mine prefer boxes, my bed, or their cat condos. They do however have two other favorite beds which were given to me by my parents.

They are available at siameserescue.org
The money goes to help rescue cats too. The beds are made by a crew of ladies and donated.

I just bought a $10 one at Walmart that has the fleeze on the bottom and is made of foam - the cover comes off so I can wash it. She did use it the first night when I put it at the end of our bed on the floor. I think she will love it in the RVs we have. At home she seems to prefer the Papasain chair I have - she has taken it over. :) :) I just wanted something warmer as I don't let her sleep with us - I do have alergies and just one time she swiped at my face and hit my eye..... We thought maybe if she had her own bed she wouldn't come onto ours.... Yah right! Debbie

Our cats love cat beds, but Phoebe pee's on them!
There is one that Noel, who reminds me a lot of your Nipo, wont leave, and is thus, safe from Pee Pee. ;)

My cat's "beds" are either our California King bed or my pile of clean and folded clothing (preferably black).

Noah's Mommy--I'm so sorry to hear that Pee Pee, I mean Phoebe, pees in her cat beds. Shadow did that about a month ago to her FAVORITE BED..I was so angry. I had been a little um..slow to clean the litter box and she got angry with me. Temperamental little **@#@... :D She then decided peeing where the original bed was would be fun and then used her carrier as a litter box...ARGH! We steamed clean the carpets, and I put a new bed in the old one's place and we haven't had an accident since.
EXCEPT..now they are by themselves for two weeks and I'm sure she is going to get her revenge.

I'm sure that Kylie doesn't 'fill out' the box like the Edster does....

Jan loves her little store bought kitty bed. (like the picture of Raisin).
Joxer hates them. He likes to sleep on fresh laundry so we put a towel on the dresser and he sleeps there instead.
Sid is like the Edster - give him a box top and he is in kitty heaven.
Chuck just loves my daughter's bean bag chair. He steals it whenever she gets up! LOL

The cat bed saga continues...;)
After seeing everyone's kitties enjoying such varied sleeping quarters (loved all the pics!!!) I decided to just take the plunge and order a bed I thought Nipo would like. However, during checkout at the PETsMART website an extra $15 shipping fee was tacked on for shipping to Hawaii. :( I cannot justify paying such fees when I haven't tried making a homemade bed or looked for beds in our local pet stores. *sigh*
I'll be sure to update when my quest for Nipo's ultimate cat bed is complete. :D Thanks for all your suggestions!

Grab the box top off of a xerox paper box and fold a towel into it.
Or take the bottom of a xerox box, cut off one end of, it flip it over onto a blanket or towel...
They like the 'cave' atmosphere!

I don't blame ya there Kate!!!
sheesh!
I was wondering about buying a PurrPad (they come in pkg of 2 for about $12) and then buying some fleece enough to cover the pad and covering it with a no sew blanket - you would have to make sure the fleece was at least 4-6 inches overlapping the pad. It would be like making a pillow.
