What are your favorite critters? I have ALWAYS wanted a dog! for as long as i can remember. But i still live at home so my dad wont let me http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif But he has let me have other pets! When I was about 7 I got my first guinea pig from my uncle for christmas. that guinea pig had babies then her babies had babies. from then on we always has them as pets! Then after that family line was over, we rescued a guinea pig. he was a sweet thing but was a little skittish.(we have also had gerbils and hampsters but i found them not as affectionate but maybe im wrong) After him we got a mini~lop. He is 3 years old! he is the most mellow rabbit i have had and to my 5 year old brother he is such a sweetheart. he has never bitten or hurt anyone (he also loves to come in the house to be around people which my dad doesnt mind). we also have a tan angora. those are a lot of work but it is also a sweet rabbit. i first saw one at the fair and i just fell in love with their curious personality. (even though my dad wont let me get a dog he absolutly LOVEs my mini~lop;he calls it his buddy!) We also have 3 chinchillas which i absolutly ADORE! they are the sweetest little animals. i want a sugar glider and ferret also but i dont know much about them. if anyone who has a sugar glider or ferret could please respond and tell me a little about them and if they are "family" pets (because they would be around a lot of people in my house) or if they are sweet! thanks a bunch! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/tongue.gif

Hi Jennifer,

I have a rabbit too. :-) He's really cute and gets along well with everyone. He lives inside with us. We let him out to play at night and he watches TV with us.

You can see a picture of him at: http://www.gatherround.com/j/AlbumIndex?u=68714&a=74157&pw=rabbit

Have a great day! Good luck with your other pets.

If you want a family pet a ferret would really be better. Sugar gliders tend to bond to one person and bonding with a glider takes a LONG time. I had a glider and she NEVER bonded with me http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif.

Ferrets can make excellent pets but make sure that you can handle the smell. Also think about adopting an older ferret from a shelter. They really need a home and that way you don't have to deal with a nippy kit.

06-28-2000, 10:31 PM
Ferrets are great like was said, but they do smell! And when you get up to 8 like I had, man do they need they cage cleaned out every other day! PEWWEWWWW.. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

I have rats and I love them to death, no smell, playful, smart, clean, and very friendly! And these peats always seem to need rescuing from shelthers and tanks so they don't get fed to snakes! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif

I've had just about everything from rabbits, iguanias, chinillians, hamsters, fish, ferrets, cats, dawgies 25 at once, birds (parakeets, cockateals and finches),unknown wild kritters I fed outside, and anything else I could bring home and hide from my husband http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif But now I really and happy with my ratties http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif You can have a peek at them at http://users.supernet.com/daytona/ you can also see my Bassets there too http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

I, too, wanted a ferret for a long time. There was a very sweeeeet little girl at one of the local petstores, but at $120 I really couldn't afford one.
I saw a Sugar Glider on TV one day, and thought "Oh!! That is the CUTEST animal I have ever seen!!". After some research, I thought "Well, they take a lot of work (or so it seemed to me anyway http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/wink.gif ) and the bonding thing...how does one go about that?" I decided against getting one.
Then one day we got a rattie. He was such a sweetheart and loved everyone except the cat, who liked to bug him when his cage was brought out to be with the family.
He sadly passed away on March 9th '00 in my arms. I miss him terribly. http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif
On March 23rd '00 our "Troublesome Duo" came to live with us. They where rescued from a feeder bin. They are such sweethearts!!

A rat might seem a little odd to you as a pet, but really they make wonderful pets, and lots of ratties need homes so they won't be snake food http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif
They don't take a lot of work, don't smell, and are great "Pocket-Pets" and family pets. As was said, they are smart, clean, and playful. Always happy to see you!
They should be kept in pairs or groups, as they are very social creatures and need company.
Anyway, that's just my oppinion http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

Best of Luck!!!! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

I have had 20 rats. Not one has been a biter. Sure they will unintentionally nip you when your fingers smell like a treat and some will grab your finger (very lightly) and pull it towards them but most will not bite. They are more likely to lick you then anything else http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

I have ALWAYS wanted a dog! But I live in an apartment and I can't have one. But I have a red heeler at my grandparent's house. Well, he's not really mine but I love him so much that I count him as mine. There was an ad in the paper for a free Australian Shephard that my dad would have got me but we read it too late. I have a guinea pig and a gerbil. I just got rid of my 3 parakeets. They were so noisy and they would keep me up at night. Guinea pigs are my favorite pet (along side dogs) then gerbils. I love my pets!

Hi everyone, do you think albino gerbils are nicer or meaner than not-albinoes? All the albino gerbils i have had as pets or seen have been nicer than "colored" gerbils. Well does anybody want an artistic rendering of their pet? just send me a email pic at
[email protected]
and i will draw it, take a digi-pic of it, and send back to u. I'm young in high skool and trying to find pets to draw for people but also find experience in this. (free http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif )
That bunny with a tilted head wuz cute doncha think? http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/wink.gif

Hi, I have wanted a horse for like 5 years, but my Dad kept saying he didn't have the money or space so I took riding lessons for 5 years, and about 3 months ago my dream came true! my Dad's friend was taking boarders so we went to an auction (were I wasn't planning on buying anything) but then I saw this beautiful Quarter Horse named Miss O Dandy Tip (I call her Missy) and We took her home! She didn't sell cheap but we worked it out... so you people who want dogs, don't give up! It will work out somehow. I also have two guinea pigs (both males) and they are great pets! My one (Bear) is a pain he always gets his cage really wet, he loves being wet he sleeps under his water bottle so it will drip on him!

In our home, we have all types of pets, 2 dogs, 1 cat (she won't tolerate another one), two hamsters and 4 hermit crabs. I find all of them delightful in their own way. The dogs and cat are much more demanding of attention than the others, but we recently moved the two hamster cages into our kitchen, so they wake up more during the day when we are in there and respond when we talk to them. They are precious. Their names are Evelyn and Phoebe and they have to live apart, but each one loves treats, especially yogurt drops and they are getting better at being held in our hands. The hermit crabs love to get their weekly bath and they are no trouble. They like to be held too and love walking across the floor. We just have to make sure the cat and dogs are outside whenever the hamsters and hermit crabs come out. You know the old saying about "curiosity killing the cat", but in this case hamsters and hermit crabs might be in some severe danger! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/eek.gif
In other words, we would recommend any pets. We love them all! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif

Mice are the best! Hamsters are fun too! But NOT dwarf hamsters....they are cute but they are mean!

Karen

Hey! I have to defend dwarf hamsters. I had one, a Siberian dwarf, who was not at all mean. He liked me more than some people, but it wasn't until he was a cranky old man that he ever nipped at all. (I don't know how old he was when he died, as he was a second-hand pet!)

We have two dogs, one cat, two hamsters and three hermit crabs. I guess I love the furry friends the best and can't imagine being without any of them. My daughter is constantly asking for More! Her latest wishes are for a guinea pig and a rabbit, but I told her that there was no way we could have them as we really don't have a good place to keep them right now. I'd have tons of pets if I could. My greatest wish right now is for a bird, but I don't see that happening with the dogs and cat right now. We love every pet we have! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/biggrin.gif

http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/eek.gif Just realized that I had already told all of you before just how many pets we have and what kind. Sorry to be repetitive. We did lose a hermit crab since that last post! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif

Please!!!! Separate the dpg from the bunnies right away! Only let them be together when someone is home and supervising! You need to let your dog know RIGHT AWAY that this is completely unacceptable. Not by yelling, but by seperating them, and slowly adjusting the situation until the dog understands the rules, and that YOU are in charge.

ok but i am so sad that she will never be the same ever again!!! will she be ok if she lives or will she always be scared

Karen
03-31-2001, 05:19 PM
Have you taken her to the vet? I think she'll be skittish around dogs for a long time - and justifiably! Just keep she and the dog seperate and she'll probably return pretty much to hernormal self, personality-wise. Very sad all around for everyone, but the best you can do now is let the bunny know she is safe and that you still love her, tail or no.

sammi
04-01-2001, 06:11 AM
So sorry for your poor bunny - I hope she is doing okay. What did your vet say about her tail as far as it healing? I hope it heals up fine and she has no infection. I would be real concerned about that. Please keep them seperated and hope that she will get over being so afraid in time.

My favorite critter, or huge critter, has nothing to do with sugar gliders and ferrets and dogs, only elephants. I love elephants because of their grace, beauty, uniqueness, strength, intelligence, and playfulness. There are so many everyday pets such as the cat and dog, which I love so much, but the elephant is uncommon to many people, and I want to let them know about the elephant.

i say, the best small pet is a hamster. i had three, and they were great. you can make them there own little world with all the tubes they have, just make sure the tubes are hooked together real tight, because ours learned how to unhook the tubes from the sides of the cage. but other than that, if you treat them well, they are the greatest small critter
