They chain, beat, and force these intelligent giants to learn. Actually, to entertain for our purpose. Do we really need to see animals being tormented so we can have entertainment? Didn't they form other entertainment for us, like t.v., music, movies, the mall, and parks? Didn't God put them here for a purpose? They're useful for something else, aren't they? The answers are no for question #1, yes for question #2, yes for question #3, and yes for question #4.
Why do people think they can get away with torturing the beautiful creatures that elephants are? Don't they know that elephants do horrible in captivity, are more intelligent than they think, and have FEELINGS too?
Good for people who CARE we can do things to stop them. Visit sites and read books to tell you more about elephants, and don't support circuses. Support sanctuaries and send money to help the elephants at the sanctuary in TN, by visiting www.elephants.com. (http://www.elephants.com.) Thank you! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif
We can do something to help!

I wish I had enough money to send to all those tortured souls. Poor guys. Elephants really are special, aren't they. The Babies are especially special.

About a year ago I had free tickets to the Ringleys Barnum & Baily Circus. I took my mother because my husband felt it would be something nice to do for my mom since she was always the one to take me and my siblings to the circus. Well first of all, pulling into the parking lot there were quite a few protesters holding up signs saying "clowns are funny, terrified animals are not" "don't teach your kids to laugh at animal abuse" etc...
When the circus first started I expected it to be cute, lots of great shows and many beautiful animals. It was just the opposite of cute! The first act they had many lovely horses, zebras, camels and llamas run onto the center ring and circle around the ring. They were so extremely skiddish and terrified and I can't believe I never saw that when I was a kid going to the circus. I could not stand it, they were afraid for their life so they did all those ridicilous tricks to make the audience happy. The ears were all back on the horses, the zebras kept flinching at every crack of the whip, they were purely terrified. It's not just the elephants that have a horrible life in the circus, it's every one of those poor, beautiful animals. My mom and I agreed that it was not fun watching those animals being beaten and whipped in front of thousands of people so we left early. I will not go to an animal circus ever again.
I feel terrible for all the animals who are unfortunate enough to be born into that type of lifestyle. It's a shame what humans will do to our fellow beings. All for money. Shame, shame, shame.

how do you feel about zoo's and aquariums? or even a dolphin type show. they seem to be happy and i never see the trainer beat the animals. just feed them.

I have never, and never will, taken my children to a circus - this is not how I want my children to grow up seeing animals. I have explained to them why we never go and they both agree with me.

You guys are so great! http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/smile.gif I wish more people would read this and think the same way because you people really did something. Even if it's only 5 people never going to circuses, maybe we can encourage more!!!

I'll never go to another circus again. Thats terrible. It is unnatural for those poor animals to be cooped up in pens for the rest of their lives, and the trainers are horrible. It is very inhumane, and to think people can just sit there and enjoy the show http://PetoftheDay.com/talk/frown.gif

A local vet in Halifax runs a anti-circus group, the name escapes me right now.
He has some awful pictures of the cages that the animals spend most of their time in.
On the plus side there are some circuses that are animal free, so those are the only ones I would go to.

I agree. Some of the circuses that are animal free are actually good. Does the vet have a website? I would like to see some pictures and help.
