I was wondering about Tinsel/Garland(sp), I always heard that it's dangerous with pets/cats...
I was just wondering how it's dangerous? Or what it does?
Our tree has all white lights and its WAY too bright, my mom said garland would tone it down, but she didn't know why it's dangerous either, so I told her that I would post here and ask before she buys any.
Thanks

The kitties can eat the tinsel and it can tangle in their intestines and strangle off portions - from what I have read, it is actually quite deadly, Robyn.
We talked about it earlier and folks are mostly using wide wired ribbon for a garland and things like that. We tie ribbon bows on our branches. I know that tinsel is a big NO.

Yup - she's right. The danger is from pets ingesting it, as it screws up their insides and can cause all sorts of trouble. No tinsel, please!

Ditto on the NO TINSEL! And I'd like to add, no "angel hair" (is that still around)? either. It's spun glass and can also cause death when ingested. Anything with dangling ribbons, and tempting things like that should be avoided. Throw a bow on at the last minute, rather than have ribbon covered packages around the tree for kitties to eat. More cats get brought into emergency vet clinics this time of year, than any other. Many end up dead from sliced up intestines. Better safe, than sorry. ;)
My boyfriends mother gave us her tree since they bought a new one this year, and they always put tons of tinsel on they're trees. Well it took me like 3 hours to get the leftover tinsel off!!!! Well worth it though I wouldn't want anything to happen to my baby. She actually keeps chewing on the branches  and opening a few prezzies :( LOL
