I just made Samson and Phoebe's pre-surgical appointments with Dr. Hoffman at the Eye Care For Animals in Pasadena for January 3 at 10:15 a.m.
I'm hoping she'll be able to do surgery on the 14th (payday) of January.
Please cross your fingers that all goes well. My vet and I want to see if we'll be able to view the surgery...her idea, of course. ;)
Here are a few pictures of what they're eyes look like:
Phoebe isn't too bad. Her right eye, you can see in this picture, is browner than her other eye. Its odd, when her eye is acting up, that one gets dark vs green like the other eye:

Sami's eyes are normally shut when he's not playing or eating. In this picture, his eyes are shut:

See how the area around his eyes are pinkish? That's what happens when a kitty gets Artificial Tears (cream) three times a day. Its thinning out the fur:

I can't wait till they are all better! Its been a long year with different vets. I'm glad we're going back to who can do it right.

Kelly I hope all goes well. Gabe's eyes look like they are the same as Samson's.....a very small eye and really no eye lids. I have not gone the artificial tear route yet because Gabe seems to be doing really well...only a couple of times that he eye left eye was shut completely from "goop" in his eye.
Gracie's right eye does not have a fully developed top eye lid and the fur from her eyes bother's her....I may at some time have to have surgery on both Gracie and Gabe.
I remember when you first adopted these two and you were showing us pictures of their eyes....their eyes looked so bad...now look at them...unless you point out what is wrong you really would not know they have a eye problems.

catlover4ever,
I didn't know your furkids had these issues too! Its such a rare thing.
Phoebe doesn't need the Artificial Tears as often as poor Sami. But it helps to make their eyes feel a bit better from having air hit them all the time. I believe it also helps to prevent corneal lesions.
Do your cats get lesions?
Do you have a good eye surgeon that is familiar with this condition? I know we have a few animal eye doctors out here, but it took a while to figure out who knew what this was and how to correct it. One vet wanted to sew their eyes shut and cut new eyelids!! (That's bad because it does nothing to correct their lack of conjuctivi tissue/inner eyelid.)
Yes, their eyes look a lot better now versus when they were tiny. Especially Pee Pee's. Sami, poor guy. I can't wait to get those poor eyes all better for him.
Take care,
Kelly :)

Awwwww!!! I'm so glad that Sami and Pee Pee are going for their pre-surgical appointments. Yay! I know they will feel so much better after the surgery, especially sweetheart Sami. Will you still have to give them artificial tears after the surgery? These 2 little dear hearts will be in my prayers for a good pre-surgical eval as well as for the surgery itself. I think it would be neat to sit in and watch the surgery. Hopefully the eye surgeon will be open to that, especially if your vet friend is there too;-) Hopefully you won't get too squimish! ;) LOL

ha ha, funny you should mention that. When I go down, I'm planning on asking their vet to come with me (for this appointment) and then we can both ask her to observe the surgery.
I told David this last night, during dinner, and he about fell over. He was shocked I'd want to see it.

I didn't know there was anything wrong with your cats' eyes... . What exactly is the vet going to do? I will keep both in my prayers, so everything goes smoothly!!
