Hi Folks
I have to take my Shepherd Nika into get Spayed next wednesday, she is 7 and the vet has advised me that I should do it now before she gets any older.
Im a little anxious as I just lost my other Shepherd Sheda to the Rainbow Bridge last weekend and I am having a lot of anxiety about this.
Any one with experience in spaying a shepherd this age have any advise, should I be worried?
Thanks in Advance

I have a friend who did not have any of her dogs spayed until they were older. She has two shepards and a rottie mix and they were all over 5 when they were spayed, as finances would not allow her to get three big dogs fixed at the same time until that point. All did very well and had no problems.
Good luck to your Nika baby.
We had our Terrier spayed around 5 yrs of age.
She wasn't as spunky the first 48 hours as when
we had are other dogs spayed before 7 months.
Other than that
I do not remember any difference.
I am very sorry about your loss.

I just heard from the Vet and the surgery was a bit complicated, however, she has managed to pull through.
The bad news - the Vet is worried that she might have hemangiosarcoma, she found a growth which she is having sent to be biopsied and Nikas Spleen is enlarged - which is a bad sign.
Not very happy.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear about this Chris. I do hope that it was caught in time, so hopefully having her spayed and discovering this was a good thing. Who knows how long it would have gone if she didn't get spayed...so try to stay positive. Prayers on the way for you and Nika.
**hugs**
Karen
Please keep us posted.
Will be sinding many good thoughts your way.

Well the whole thing is "hopefully" over.
The spaying was a little rough, but Nika made it through OK and the Growth on her arm turned out to be an infection and not the dreaded "C" word.
So happy days!
Thanks everyone for your kind support
Chris & Nika
Glad that Nika is going to be ok!
Now you can take a deep breath and have a happy Holiday. :)

Hi Chris, Welcome to Pet Talk!
I'm glad Nika is okay! Thank gosh the lumo they found wasn't serious. She sure is a gorgeous dog!
