lol I came up with the most brilliant idea to stop mistys counter surfing perminiantly! lol the mat thing worked like a charm, and stoped MOST of her counter surfing, butnot all of it. so I had the most brilliant idea lol make Misty think that counter surfing was MY idea, and that staying on the floor was HER idea! lol how? simple, when she startes to counter surf I show up and MAKE her counter surf, basicly I just hold her up on the counter lol she can only stand so much of that before she is begging me to let her go on the floor lol, now while I am holding her up I am taking tpo her about what bad ideas I have, and as soon as I allow her on the floor, I am praising her and telling her what great ideas she has! lol I got this when I thought back to elementry school, and the punnishments were as follows, you throw a snowball? ok, you want to throw snowballs so bad you can throw them at the wall for an hour no stopping lol too much of a good thing..... ;) she wants to counter surf? ok, counter surf, but ya aint stopping till I tell ya, you are! lol so far working like a charm! heck she begs me to not let her countersurf! ;) lol

how about putting double sided tapes on the counter top? gigi is too short to counter surf (like the term :D ), so i don't have to worry about that. but she does "coffee-table surf" though.

lol well the thing about misty is things like tape dont detour her lol misty can just barly reach her paws onto the counter top, the problem is she can jump, and things that would detour other dogs like pain, or somehing uncomfortable, Misty could care less, she was bred for herding cattle, plus has the border collie determination so she is extremly tough lol I am not looking for ways anymore because I have to invent them myself, ones that are suited to her, not to other dogs, she is just to different from other dogs lol so far my too much of a good thing technique is a workin :D
