View Full Version : Taffy is really Sick :(

I guess I never really thought of Taffy as really old until a few days ago. A few nights ago I brought him his treat a little late and he was just laying in his pigloo. I thought nothing of it, thinking he was just resting because I had taken him out for a while before getting him his treat.

Thursday morning I woke up to get Taffy his yogurt drops (he gets 2 every morning with a handful of timothy hay) and his treat was still in his dish, un touched. I cleaned it out, and gave him his yogurt drops. He wouldn't touch them.

Since he won't eat or drink on his own we have been feeding him with a syringe (sp?) with out the needle. He has been eating baby food, yogurt, and has just started taking some apples and lettuce from our hands. We feed him every couple of hours and hold the water bottle up for him to drink.

Last night I called the vet and when she called back (she talked to my dad) she said it could be Kidney failure!  :( She said we could bring him in for the blood test, but that would stress him out so much, and if he did have it there would be nothing they can do.

Could you please keep Taffy in your prayers? Or atleast cross your fingers, paws, fins, or wings for him? I just want him to be ok.

:eek:h no! :( I just read your e-mail message and saw this. Poor Taffy! Smudge, Patches, me and Chiquito (betta)will pray for your dear Taffy. I can understand how you're feeling, although Smudge and Patches have never been seriously sick, it is devastating when something bad happens to pets.
Taffy will be in my prayers, and I really hope he overcomes the problem.

Thank you both so much!

I would be feeding him right now, but I think I'm coming down with a cold. I don't want him getting even sicker! Its hard for me to talk my throat hurts so much.

I think he is having trouble with either one or both of his back legs. :( If he gets through this I'm going to try water therapy for his legs. I think his muscles are either very stiff or he has arthrites. (sp?)

Get well soon Taffy! I know how hard it is to see our loved animals sick. I hope it's not serious.

Thanks again everyone!

My dad just went up to feed him, and when he came back down he said Taffy was eating more lettuce and apple. (He won't eat anything else willingly) My dad just brought up some more for him. Hopefully he will get through this! But, I don't want to get my hopes up...

New theory on what happened: My mom said he could have had a seizure and lost movement in his back legs and possibly one of his front legs. He could have not been able to get to food and water for a few days and then just gotten weaker. Now, he also can't go to the bathroom by himself. :(

He is doing better, eating lots of fresh foods and last night when I had him out while m y dad was getting his food he crawled across my room to his favorite cord that he tries to chew whenever he is out.

Oh Crissy, I'm so sorry for you and your precious little Taffy:( What a wonderful, caring piggie mom you are. Me and all of the furry ones at my house, especially the pigs Moon and Rosie, will be keeping all paws and claws and fingers crossed and saying lots of special prayers for your Taffy's recovery. I was encouraged to read that he was eating well now...keep fighting the good fight, brave, sweet little Taffy! Love, Sandra and the Furkids

Well, this morning Taffy woke me up like he used to wheeking for food! Than he ate like the piggy he is! :D  :p I'm glad he is feeling better. I'm still going to hand feed him the baby food because I added vitamin C powder since he is sick and can't develope it on his own.
