OK I am super duper excited about these pictures. I don't think I have ever taken such good photos in my life. I am so excited about these!:D

I took these last night. He's a little fat right now as he just ate a couple of days ago. He's a Western Diamondback Rattler, and his name is Agave. :)

I am leaving the photos big so you can see the detail.

I'll try posting more pics of him later on today. I have a few of his tank etc.

Oh yes, that is his favorite place to sleep too, besides his little den. :)

Those are great! What a beautiful snake. However, it would be too close for comfort for me, if I was really that up close!

W:eek:W! He is gorgeous! Where'd you get a Rattler? I didn't know people could keep them as pets.

Here in Oregon you can have many different kinds of venemous snakes. For some reason people seem to choose the cobras but I prefer the rattlers. They are just so much friendlier/cuter. You need a special permit for the Western Diamondbacks. Eastern Diamondbacks are perfectly legal with no permits though. We're working on adding an Eastern to our home too. Hopefully soon! Though I think I am more partial to the Westerns. :)

Yes, he is still venomous. They sell some with their glands removed though, but I find that cruel.

What happens if he bites you? I don't know much about snakes.....

Great pictures! It looks like they were taken outside because of the foilage! I'd love to see more!

He's very cute! Where I live there are alot of rattlers, but the poor thing's homes are being destroyed as the city gets bigger and bigger. :(

Educate me... I'm snake-dumb! lol

Are those holes nostrils?
Are "venom-free" snakes more (price-wise) than venomous snakes?
Can you take him and donate venom so they can make anti-venom?

GREAT pics!

What gorgeous pictures. He almost doesn;t look real, they;re so sharp! What kind of camera do you have?

Some day I hope to have the skill, patience, luck and fast enough camera to get a good photo of Miss Hoppy WITH her whiskers showing. You all can usually se some of them, but her little bunny nose is always wiggling, so the whiskers are wiggling, so don't show up!

You know, I don't know if we can do that or not. I actually have never thought about that. Eli's dad is a Biologist so maybe he would know.

I haven't found them to be more pricey than ones with their glands. They sell really cheap, which is a shame. Most are only about $25 to $45 dollars. It depends on where you get them from though.

The holes are called "pits" and are heat sensers that they use to find food. :) Anything else?

Thanks! I have a Canon Poweshot A300. I shot these with the macro mode. The camera is OK. The only thing I don't like about it is the way it photographs outside. The pictures are always washed out. The macro mode is great though!!!

I'm just lucky he's relatively slow. I would love to see a whisker shot of Miss Hoppy! Does your camera have a macro mode? I just took a picture of his rattle so I will have to post that.

Here's a photo I took of Freckles nose on the macro mode. She was sleeping. :)

Those are beautiful pictures, what a gorgeous snake he is! You know I just got done reading a book on Cleopatra and BC Egypt. It went into some detail about how revered and honored snakes were and I found it really fascinating. It is such a shame that in our society they are seen as such a feared and hated creature. A big "booo!" on those Hollywood horror portrayals on snakes and other feared animals.

LOL I liked the Freckles nose pic!

That picture of your snake is stunning! It was so sharp! I thought it was going to come right out of my computer screen!
I'll have to play around with the macro mode on my camera, to see if I can get any pictures this neat! :)

Wow! Great photos. I would be kind of afraid around a venomous snake. I remember when we would go down to the Convention Center in Minneapolis in the winter for the Sports show, there was a snake expert or whatever there with all kinds of snakes. It was cool. So do you basically just keep him to look at?

Wow, those were really neat pictures. He's actually a really neat looking snake. While I couldn't personally have one as a pet, I do think its an intriging idea.

I love the second one where you can see how his eyes are set towards the top of his head. I had always thought snake's eyes were flat against their head. Or, is this specific to his breed?

Cool thread! I'd love to see more pictures. :)

It's normal for rattlesnakes. :) I got more pics. I will post them here in just a bit.
