'Morning Everybody :)

Check this out to see the surprise of my morning!

I was reading a post by Kuhio in Cat Rescue about a Midwest transport that is needed. I went to check out the site that she mentioned in her post

http://www.petfinder.org/shelters/NY413.html

When what to my surprise I see?!!??!!

Check out the 6th picture down on the left. Does that look like anyone you know?

And then, as a matter of fact, check out this site.

http://catoftheday.com/archive/2002/May/02.html

See any similarities??!!??

I am going to be sending them an email, but will hold off for a bit so you guys can check it out.

OMG!!! That's funny but still . . . kinda wrong for them to use your baby's pic!

You should email them and tell them you're interested in THAT CAT!!! See what they have to say about it!

I wonder if they'd send you a Peanut Look-A-Like! That is definitely Peanut's pic, no doubt!

You've got to be kidding!?? What's with that? I've heard stories where they will take other cats pictures off the internet for calendars etc. Keep us posted on what they say!

If you look close, it's obvious that they took it from the COTD picture. You can see in the upper right hand corner where they "erased" the COTD logo.

Oh, and I guess I"m flattered that they thought she was cute enough to use, but isn't it wrong for a "rescue" to use pictures of cats that aren't even up for rescue?

I like Christa's idea, just to see what they say!

Go get 'em, T&P's mom!

Yes! It's very wrong and doesn't say much for the rescue organization, does it!

Are those photos meant to be animals for adoption? Or are they just photos of animals?

I wonder how many more were taken from PetTalk! It looks like quite a few of them have edited out things on a corner.

Too funny, but they shold have been more careful.

It makes me wonder how many other PTers have pics of their cats and dogs floating around cyberspace as logso, or on greeting cards, etc.

That's what I was thinking too, and is part of what I said in the email.....which I still haven't sent. I'm thinking as soon as they get it they will remove her pic, so I just want to hold off so others can see. However, I did save the site so I do have proof that the pic was there. Not that I'll need proof or anything....

I have no idea what the pics are really intended to depict, but to me, if I go to the site of a rescue org. I would think I'd see pics of either animals they had up for adoption now, or in the past.

Wow. I think this is so wrong. they could have asked for permission, I am sure, it would have been given.

I am wondering if my kitties are somewhere.

At the very least, it's probably a Copyright violation.

Be sure Miz Karen hears about this -
she may want to investigate it, too.

Be glad they didn't post Peanutter's address!

I've PM'd Karen. Like I say, if she gave permission then I've got no problem with it, but since it's obvious that other pics come from COTD also, she should at least know about it.

None of my pictures better be anywhere but here.I think it is horrible NOT to notify the person and let them know BEFORE it happens!!!!

I think the organization is just using nice photos on thier site but when I go to a rescue site I would like to see photos of the animals that are up for adoption.

Unfortunately I don't know of any of us here on PT that copywrite our photos....in turn, because they are not copywrited they may just be able to use anyone's photo any way that they want.

It does not hurt to ask and mention that they are using a picture of Peanut on their site and ask them how did they obtain the picture.

I wonder how many inquiries they've received about adopting beautiful Peanut???

Maybe they were just trying to use the cream of the crop pictures on their home page to draw people in and increase their adoptable's chances. Hopefully you can show them the error of their ways and they can get permission to use these.

I can't wait to hear what that organization says .... I remember when I signed up at ImageStation to store my pics there IS a box you check as to whether or not others can see/share/order prints, etc. Of course I know most of us would say no, but sometimes those little waivers can be so poorly written that one doesn't know which to select. Although in this case it looks like out-and-out copying with a little PhotoShop editing. Not good. Are you writing to the webmaster of that site? Are you going to try to adopt that Peanut impurrsonator?

No matter how you look at it..it's fraud!!!

I agree, it is, and I know the subject of copyrighting our pics came up a few years ago, but I just never did anything about it.

Just adding a line to each pic saying it's copyrighted is usually enough to disuade would be pirates.

And I guess I could get really upset and sue and everything, but it's really not worth all that since they'll probably remove it as soon as I say something. And besides, there a rescue, they have no money, and what little money they have I'd rather see go to rescuing kitties - and taking legitimate pictures - rather than into defending themselves in a lawsuit.

Any updates? Even though this is fraud I still find it kind of funny. How did you run across that rescue site anyhow, out of curiosity?

Your right.I really want the cats adopted, but it would of been easy to be honest as there are so many nice cats to adopt. And I wouldn't want there money spent on anything exept caring and finding homes for them.I don't know why they needed to lie about it since there are so many truthful nice stories. There really are.I adopted 6 out of shelters and most were very sick. And ALL are doing great now.And 4 would of been put down soon if I didn't take them. All they need is pictures and stories from real events. That's why I'm upset because it is so easy to find truthful nice stories. They don't need to do this.

I'm not so sure it would qualify for any kind of copyright violation. Take Google, for example.

If you click on images and type in "cats" or "kittens" you get hundreds of thousands of images of kitties.

If you were to "take" one of those images and put it on another web site (as long as you're not selling it to make a profit), I don't know that there's anything wrong with that.

I would be flattered if they used a photo of one of my kitties, but I think I would like permission first.

What?! Did Peanut sneak and get a side job? I didn't know that he was a super model!

Really, any person with good intentions and common sense would post the actual rescue cat's pictures. That is very misleading to have pictures of other cats posted.

By all means, they have enough adorable kittens up for adoption. They should be using those pictures.

Well, this certainly strange of them! I hope you get an answer. I don't know if I'd call it false advertising or what ??

They shouldn't use the pictures without permission. Surely the have enough pictures of their OWN cats to use instead.

Please keep us posted on what they have to say for themselves.

WHAT JERKS!!!!!!!

How can they have the gull to put those kitties who already have loving homes up there and say they are homeless. I think they need a good dose of legal action. Anyone here a lawyer??????

Let us know what they do about it.

Ok I just called the number, and I got was an answering machine to a lady called Barbara. I left my name and number and asked that she call me so I may be able to come and "adopt" one of the kittens on the website.

I'll let you guys know what I find out.

This is so weird! As others have said...they have cats and kittens presumably! They SHOULD be featuring them, and not heisting pictures from other places. I'm sure many of you have seen an 'inspirational' type email that's been going around for over a year now. It depicts cats and kittens, and one in particular (a fluffy brown tabby kitten, with green leg braces on his front legs) is a kitty named Bendy. I'm sure that his picture was pirated from his owners website, and inserted into this widely circulated email! Off to read the rest...

This is horrible! I think it's great that the ythink Peanut is gorgeous (like we all do!) but they should be showing photo's of cats that really need homes! I was most offended by the comment that they can't save them all "yet" but they "hand pick the best" for adoption! That is disgusting in my opinion!!!
I'm sure glad Magoo didn't go there!
