RICHARD

I think we are on the road to Switzerland this week....

I do have a cold so I wanted to start the thread before I go home to self medicate myself.......

I can't think of a DOTD since we used swiss lemonade last week, so we will go for the standard hot libations w/your own twist on them..

-------------------

I was watching the news last night and saw that a monkey got loose in Youngstown, Ohio....

They tried to catch it with a banana, no go!!!

I don't remember exactly what happened to it, but it did get electrocuted when it climbed a power pole....Fear not, it did survive the ordeal.....He was shaken and then he stirred......

LOLOLOL, a little bar humor there.....

I thought of Mario and knew he wouldn't fall for the banana trick.....A beer???? THAT'S a different story....

So now, If you will all place your trays (NO NOT YOU, Tray!!) in the upright position and straighten your seatbacks....check your seatbelts and AWAY WE GO!!!!!

"this is you pilot speaking, You are now free to circulate about the cabin.....The bartender will take your orders and....

MARIO....THAT'S the auto pilot and that's the....NO, you can't hang your head out the window.........."
:D

we're leeeeaving on a jet plane
don't know when we'll be back again.....

Give the pilot a pigs foot and buy the monkey a beer on me! I brought a huge picnic basket with food because I don't dare want to rely on airplane food. Even if it is AIR THURSDAY ;)

Whew, I was wondering about this upright position! Wasn't quite sure what position that would put me in!! I thought I was going to have to sit on my head!

Great a trip, I have never been a trip like this before, this is going to be fun, and I know Mario is going to have a lot of fun too!

I'll start out with a Hot Buttered Rum and Mario will start with his favorite, a beer.

Thanks Richard!

Ooh! How about a mug of hot Swiss chocolate with marshmallows!

lbaker
11-10-2004, 02:15 PM
Hot Swiss Chocolate WITH MARSHMALLOW of course and a hot buttered rum. DONE! hmmmm, something tells me I should fix up a batch of hot buttered rum. Beer for Mario of course. Look at him with his little flight attendant uniform on, silly boy :p Mario, you are supposed to OFFER peanuts, not throw them around the cabin

Tubby & Peanut's Mom
11-10-2004, 02:19 PM
How about some good Swiss wine? Yep, they make wine there too, and Swiss Air - which is now just Swiss - used to serve it on their planes. Pretty good too I might add, especially when you're stuffed in the "not business" and "not first" class cabin. ;)

Of course at Air Thursday we're ALL first class...oops, I mean in first class. ;)

Yep, looks like Tray is upright, so away we go! I'm so excited! I LOVE Switzerland! Can't wait to wake up to the sound of the cow bells clanking in the hills!

Tubby & Peanut's Mom
11-10-2004, 02:28 PM
And here's the view from our hotel room. It's hard to see, but between and behind the two near peaks is a snow covered peak - Jungrau - billed as The Top of the World! I don't remember the name of the hotel we're staying at (across the street from this pic), but it's one of the finest historic hotels in Interlaken. It's a good thing this is a cyber trip because I don't think we could afford to stay there otherwise. ;)

Since I'm playing tour guide here, these are some of the activities we'll be partaking of on this trip:
Trip to the top of some of the Alps
Bicycle Ride
Train/tram rides
Tour a "mobility" museum in Zurich
Hikes in the Alps
Fine dinners
Seeing an authentice Alp Horn Player and yodeler (no, the yodeler is NOT Gini) ;)
And just partaking of the beautiful serene landscape.

lbaker
11-10-2004, 02:54 PM
And for your in-flight entertainment ladies and gentlemen we have a brief skit... as Heidi, that little ol' yodeler herself Ms. Gini. As The Grandfather, well... seeing as how the bartender is also flying the plane.... The Thespian Mr. DavidP!! Let's give them a rousing welcome :D YEEEEAAAAAA!!!

DJFyrewolf36

Yehaw! I was wondering when Thursdays would open!

Two beers, Remus is feeling fisty today :D

I'm looking forward to the trip!!!

O.K. - MIZZZZ BAKER! I WILL yodel for everyone IF I can be promised that we will have some honest to goodness Swiss Fondue! Ymmm, yum..........haven't had it for years!

Well, will you listen to Mario? He is trying to imitate me - errr, or am I trying to imitate Mario?

Where's that bartender? A cold - oh, like we really believe that...........he's up there learning how to fly!

Let's start making a racket back here - that will get him!

;) :p See, here he comes!

Oh look - Richard has on those cute leather pants with the hat with a feather. Whadda you call those pants? Leiderhosen?
Check out those legs girls (snicker)

trayi52
11-10-2004, 09:06 PM
Now that woke me up, did you say legs? Where?

Tubby & Peanut's Mom
11-11-2004, 09:11 AM
Zermott and the Matterhorn are definitely on the schedule Corinna!

And yes, Gini, you can have all the authentic Swiss Fondue you want! I agree - yuuu-mmy! By the way, did you know that you can buy authentic Swiss fondue at the grocery store? It's usually in the "exotic" cheese department in a box. Just put it in the fondue pot and melt - yuuu-mmy!!

Hey, anybody seen Slick lately? I hope she didn't take Mario and go hiking in the Alps without a guide!

The one for TN, yeap sounds like it alright! Funny thing girls here in TN are just as bold and say the same thing!

I'll have to send that to my daughter and son.:D

I think I'll grab a cup of coffee and see where Mario went to.

Willie - somehow my saying "nice ass - get in the car" makes me howl with laughter.

Probably Mario would be the only taker:D

Gini, can you imagine driving down Rodeo Dr and saying that? All of a sudden the guy turns around and its Brad Pitt or something! :D :D He'd probably call the cops and tell them he's being stalked! :p :D :p :D

Eewww...what a horrible thought! I hate those teeny tiny little bathrooms. I bet I couldn't even bend down to get my head near the sink, and even if I could (like, if the door was open and my legs were sticking out  ) the faucets are so close the the back of the sink that you can't hardly get your hands in to wash them much less my head! That does it, I'm putting my hair in pigtails and putting a babushka on! (does anybody here even know what a babushka is?) ;)

Mario, sweety, here's a beer. I'll give you the beer if you give me the marshmallows....please....?

gini
11-11-2004, 11:50 AM
Yup, I know what a babushka is...........and that would sure beat the curlers in the other thread.

Isn't that a great word? BABUSHKA

Like you could say to someone "aw, you are just full of babushka!"

(and Gini gets thrown off the board for this one!)

trayi52
11-11-2004, 11:58 AM
I know Debbie, you could go stick your head in the snow! We may all have to do that, if Mario decide to debug us with sticky fingers anyway...but at least we won't have bugs!:D

How about a cup of hot chocolate? Anybody? I bet Mario would love some with marshmellows!

Good idea, Willie! And since we're at the top of Schilthorn today, we can do just that! At the top of Schilthorn there is a restaurant that was in one of the early James Bond movies. I don't remember which one, but we all headed up one day - me, Terry and about 20 other people that he works with. For most of them it was their first time in Switzerland and their first and only time to go this high up. It was sooo disappointing because it was all foggy on the way up and we couldn't see a thing, and as you can see in the pic, in the higher elevations some of the fog was turning to snow - and as you can see on the pic, it was the beginning of June, and it was beautiful in the valleys so we weren't dressed for the cold and snow!

This one is Terry throwing a snowball at us - nobody else was brave enough to venture out. ;)

Tubby & Peanut's Mom
11-11-2004, 01:47 PM
And here's Terry pointing out the beautiful view of the valley below. It was really kind of neat because we hiked up part way, then took a tram the rest of the way. Not exactly a picture perfect day, but since I was on vacation - in Switzerland - every day was a perfect day. ;)

I don't know how to spell this, but do you know what "yak shamas" means? If it really means what I think it means, I might just get thrown off the board with you, Gini. ;)

Thanks Gini! Now I know for sure and I can tell my mom with authority what a babushka is. Hmmm....wonder what a Busha really is?

Are there no typically Swiss drinks? Hmmm.....since there are so many cows.......milk? I also think of beer, but that's German and when you think of wine you think of France, so I'm not sure.....

It's a little cold here for that Swiss Lemonade we had last week, so I think I'll stick to the hot chocolate with some sort of spike added to it. I'm not a big peppermint fan, and I think Baileys would make it too sweet (and besides, Slick's not here so we ran out of Baileys....Slick...where are you?) so I'm not sure what sort of spike....is there maybe some sort of cherry liqure (how do you spell that anyway, not liquor, but lickure  ). I'm heading home now so you guys hold down the fort.

Last I saw Mario he was riding that rescue St Bernard like a horse!

amoore, please assure Sipowietze we will NOT be stopping in France and he doesn't have to worry about anyone snatching his legs. Kahlua isn't very Swiss but it does go great with hot chocolate. Nikki and Daisy are FAR to sweet to bother your mousie BCBlondie. That Swiss fondue goes so well on this dank, rainy, dreary day, I'm glad we are flying high above it. I have an old recipe from the "Eat It" cookbook (written by Sherrie Krumb and illustrated by R Krumb) for Aunt Betsy's anti-snirk tea Richard. Just what the Dr ordered for head colds. Let me brew you a cup... poor dear.

Laurie, do you have any catnip tea on board? i think my two girls can use it!

lbaker
11-12-2004, 07:48 AM
Well I have tea, and allllways have catnip in my bag so catnip tea shouldn't be much of a reach. How's the knee in this damp cold David? Do you now have a built in barometric pressure reader? I think some nice hot buttered cornbread and crispy, thick sliced bacon would make happy tummies this morning. A wee bit difficult in the small kitchen we're working with but where there's a will there's a way. OUCH, watch your elbows! This kitchen is small!!!

From my experience, breakfast is usually a smorgasboard with everything from sliced meat and cheese and buns to make a sandwich to tomatoes with olive oil sprinkled over them with mozzarella cheese. Yes, I know we're talking about breakfast, but that's what they have! They also have things like doughnuts and cereal and stuff, but I always thought they put that out for the American tourists. ;) They also have muesli which I absolutely LOVE!!!

Here's a link to check it out. Even though this place is in Canada, it looks the same as the breakfasts we've had in Switzerland. All looks pretty yummy if you ask me! :)

Driver crashed while eating muesli

A German woman caused £15,000 of damage when she tried to eat a bowl of muesli while driving her car.

Julia Bauer, 21, from Bochum, laid out a bowl, a packet of muesli, a pint of milk and a spoon on the passenger seat before climbing in to the driver's seat and setting off.

She then attempted to make her breakfast on her way to work but lost control of the vehicle when she reached out to stop her bowl from tipping over.

"The young driver ended up spoiling more than just the car seat when she swerved and crashed into a parked car and a lamppost," said a police officer.

"She could have gone on a two-week holiday at a five-star hotel with breakfast included for this much money."
