Politician gives up sex
An Indian politician has pledged to give up sex for the rest of his life to compensate for his sins.
Bhavin Sheth, a member of the legislative assembly from Gujarat, and his wife Pinky took the oath of celibacy in Ahmedabad.
The couple have been married for nine years and have a seven-year-old son, reports the Asian Age.
Before swearing complete celibacy, the couple renounced sex for three years which they claim gave them 'the confidence to practice it for the rest of our lives'.
The 34-year-old politician said: "I did that to clear the bad reputation that a politician carries.
"It is also a penance for the sins that I may have committed as a politician. It is a means to the purification of the soul. I want to set an example in society."
However, the newspaper said many locals viewed the celibacy vow as a 'political stunt'.
