For me, I've had beagles and border collies, and border collies are the best!! I love 'em...my last Border, Bandit, was a GREAT dog, and my best friend. Blaze is awesome too. So...what is the best breed of dog you've ever had, (or owned)?;)

hummmm this is a toughie. Love my Collies, but Maddie was my soul mate dog and Murph is about the best behaved dog ever and still has a zest for life at 14. So gonna go with Cairn Terriers.

I've had a poodle, schnauzer, and siberian husky. Siberian huskies are the best for me. :)

In my life so far I've had a Dachshund, Aussie, Collie and a Golden Retriever, and I'd have to say Golden Retrievers are my best fit. :)

All of my dogs!
My RB Beagle and Dalmation were my only purebred dogs, and they were both wonderful breeds, both that i would get again. And of course, mutts!
The best dog I ever owned was a GSD/Lab mix. :)
My two childhood dogs were a mutt and an American Eskimo. As an adult I have had 6 Poodles (2 still living) so it has to be Poodles. :)

Mutts have to be some of the best dogs i've ever known. I've only owned mutts myself, but even out of the dogs I know -- mutts have always been the best.

I adore Border Collies, and had one as a first dog. I rescued her and her six newborn (all female) pups next to a busy train track. Smart as a whip she was, though the runt of the litter I kept, and she was the opposite. Not the brightest crayon in the box, but a sweet girl anyway. Her mom taught her to be nawty! But all around...I love mutts best! ;)

I have had mutts, a westie, a scottie, and a greyhound. The greyhound cross and greyhound are very similar in personality and temperment. Greys are my preference

I'd have to say my mutt (RB boy, Bruno...a dachshund/cocker spaniel mix) and my lab (Finn) were/are both incredible creatures. I couldn't possibly pick.

I really hate to choose between any of my dogs, but I would have to say Frisk-man. He is just the sweetest most well-behaived dog that has ever wondered into my life. Don't get me wrong, Ethan has his moments, but Frisk-man is an all-around sweetheart.

The best breed of dog I've had so far is my Pom (mix?), Megan. :D She is the most loyal, sweet, and intelligent little girl I've ever met, and I couldn't live without her! <3

mine has got to be the English Springer Spaniel they are amazing dogs and stay puppies all their lives
I honestly have to have Ginger. :) She is a Chihuahua/ Miniature Pinscher mix.
Reggie is getting better everyday since she is getting out of her puppy stage. She is also a mutt.:)
I love Junior to death but sometimes he can be a pain in the butt. I do love him though.;) :D He is getting better though. Sometimes I don't think he realizes his size though. He will knock you right over if your not careful!:p

All dogs are great, each breed or mix has their own plusses and minuses, and almost every dog can be a great match for the right person.
That said, the answer that popped out as soon as I read this thread's title was:
Sheba! The doggie I grew up with, she was maybe a Shepherd/Doberman mix, maybe Shepherd/Rottie. A slightly bulkier German Shepherd. In any case, she was the best, smartest dog in the whole wide world. She taught me so much, like looking both ways before I crossed the street, like it's okay if the older kids won't play with you, you still have Sheba dog, and I have never met a better dog. She made a dog-lover out of the man across the street who "didn't like dogs," she protected us if we kids were outside but parents were inside, she kept the neighborhood free of woodchucks (and anything else she could catch, she had a high prey drive) and um, even improved the genetics of the neighborhood cats - the smart ones, the fast ones - those were the ones who lived to reproduce. (Sorry cat folks, no offense intended.) Sheba was the best (non)breed of dog ever.

I've had lots of dogs...I suppose that my favourite breed of the breeds I've had would be the German shepherd dog.

When I was growing up, I always wanted a big dog. My dad, bless his heart, took me to look at several different breeds, the most memorable being a St. Bernard! I also kept trying to convince him an Afgan was the dog for me. Poor dad. I don't know if he was just humoring me or not, but I thought it was pretty nice of him to go through all this, even though we never got any of them.
One day at school, there was this stray mutt running around the grounds. The minute I laid eyes on him, I knew he was going to be my friend. He picked me out of all the other kids and followed me everywhere. I heard that they were going to call Animal Control to pick him up, so I lied and told them he was mine. They called my dad at work while I was sitting there in the office and just as I had hoped, he went along with my story and the let me take him home.
What an amazing he was. He looked just like a medium sized sheep dog or some type of terrior mix. Lots of blond fur all over the place. I always had to keep his bangs cut, so he could see!
I had him all the way through high school and took him with me when I moved out on my own. He never needed a leash and would stay by my side wherever I went. I could even leave him outside when visiting friends and he would wait patiently on their front porch. Obviously I was not the responsible dog owner that I am today but things seemed different in those day I guess.
Anyway, since then I have only had greyhounds and although I would consider them to be my favorite breed, my first mutt deserves credit for being one of the best.
Mutts rule! :)

My Rotti's have been my best dogs in every way. My favorites used to be American Cocker Spaniels and Sheppard/Collie mix. Not many dogs I couldn't fall in love with though, but will always have at least 1 Rotti male.:D

It is hard to choose.... But in the end it is a tie between German shorthaired pointers, labs, and Toy fox terriers!

Dachshunds are by far the best breed I've owned. Second to collies and aussies, can't decide between them :) and then beagles :D I owned a BC mix before and he was a very nice dog too! Mutts are also great, I've owned a few in the past and they were all wonderful dogs but they aren't technically a breed soooo.....

This is a tough one. I have had a Daschund, Dane, Sheppard, Mutts, Springer and Boxer. I would have to say my rb springer and the boxer. They have sooooo much personality and they are extremely smart. They are/were so loving and affectionate.

PBM's (Pure Bred Mutts)...are the BEST in my book!! I'm involved in rescue and they are what we strive to save. We call them the forgotten angels.
Mutts. Generally less issues and longer life. :) Plus many more mutts are put to death every year, better chance to rescue.

We've had greyhounds, six in all, for 11 years now. I can't conceive of owning another breed as much as I admire some of them.
There is no better bred dog on the face of the earth. Their pedigrees can often be traced to the 1700s. Congenital diseases like hip dysplasia are all but unknown and they are the longest-lived of the large breeds. 12 to 14 years is common and I've even heard of a 17 year-old.
Their temperaments are placid and affectionate. They require little exercise. Most are content with a brisk walk and a 30 second sprint around the yard.
I love this breed dearly and will never share my home with anything else.
