i think my luli girl is dying :(

I'm pretty sure my hairless rat, Luli, is not going to be around for much longer. She's really listless, basically not moving at all. I've held her in my lap for about an hour and she hasn't closed her eyes. She's still breathing and I've been able to get her to drink a little bit of water, but, that's hard for her. And, she won't eat. Anyway, I'm just really bummed that she's not well, and, I wanted to post something about her in here. She's been a really good little girl for over three years, now, and, I know she's just old for a rat. I'm just trying to keep her warm and comfortable for now. I'll let you all know if she does go to the bridge. :(

I'm so sorry. It is hard to see them suffer. :( I watched our last hamster go through the final stages of life and it broke my heart so badly that I took her in and had her euthanized to spare her the pain.

thanks, everyone. I fell asleep with her in a blanket with me, and, then, put her to bed. When I woke up a few hours later, she'd pooped a little and moved a little out of the spot I'd put her in, but, she'd died. :( She was still really warm and her little toes and limbs were still flexible, so, it had happened shortly before I'd woken up. I'm taking her to the vet today. She's at the bridge with my other rats, Gwynnie and Lily.

I'm sorry for your loss Kari, but it sounds at least like she went peacefully and without a doubt loved. I didn't see her pictures before but it's only fairly recently that I've made a habit of visiting Pet General routinely. I'm glad you bumped her thread back up so I could see her. She looked like a cutie. RIP Luli girl :(

She definitely was a cutie, and, just really sweet. You could stick your finger in her mouth, and, she wouldn't bite you. :) She was given to me a few years ago by my brother's ex, and, I have to tell her now that she's gone. :(

Thanks again, everyone, for posting about Luli. :) It hurt more to see her laying in her cage the other night, not moving than it did to actually realize she'd died overnight. Because I had a few hours to realize she wasn't going to make it. I did most of my crying with her nose next to my cheek. I'm just glad I was able to sit and hold her for as long as I did. She died (I hope) comfortably in her cage, surrounded by nice clean warm blankets.

Oh, and, I did want to say that Finn did really well. He always tried to jump and grab her from my hands if I was holding her, just because he wants everything you have in your hands. He did that the other night, as usual, when I took her from her cage. But, when he realized that something was different, he was a different dog. It was amazing, and, it's actually what made me start crying the hardest. I was on the couch, with my feet on the coffee table. Luli was laying in my lap. Finn sat on the floor and rested his head on my lap or about an hour and a half, while I tried to give Luli some water. His nose was only a few inches from her, and, he just watched. He would look up at me every now and then, but, mostly just watched her. It was amazing, but, I think he sensed she was sick. :(

I'm not sure if you saw it, but, I did post a memorial for her. She died that morning. :(
