Hey, did anyone else see this? I saw this on Grey Talk and thought I'd post it in here. Hopefully, the link works. This is absolutely terrible, she has to be so embarassed! that's what happens when you can't sing! WOW! Her band really did a good job, but, she definitely didn't!

yeah I watched it too. It was so funny. I know she felt bad, but she shouldn't have blamed it on her band.

I agree with petslover. It was bad, but blaming it on the band was the worst thing she could have done. If you listen, you can hear the band at the beginning start playing the correct song, and then her vocals come in for the other song "Pieces of Me." The band didn't know what to do, so they start playing "Pieces of Me" too, and Ashlee does this weird jig-thing while the band train-wrecks, and then just leaves the stage. Then she blames it on the band, saying they played the wrong song. No, they didn't. I don't know if she was planning to lip-synch or what (someone told me she lip-synched the first song?), or if she was using the vocals as a "guide" and was going to sing along with them, but I think she should apologize to her band, you know?
Here's a quote from Ashlee herself:
Lucky Magazine: "What are your takes on lip-synching?"
Ashlee Simpson: "I'm totally against it and offended by it. I'm going out to let my real talent show, not to just stand there and dance around. Personally, I'd never lip-synch. It's just not me."
It was on the news this morning.

Grrrr. No sound on work computer. Will have to check it out tonight.
I don't believe it 100% proves she was lip-syncing. A lot of people use backup tracks and sing along with them. I know I probably would use one if I were a singer. I can only imagine how hard it is to sing and dance live and try to make it all sound and look good!

I just heard about it on the radio!
Edit:
Wow... I just saw the video... LOL!!! Just wow... That was hilarious. Well... at least the band played well! LOL

My whole thing is that if she was actually planning on singing, she should have just sang "Pieces of Me" instead of walking off the stage. Her band picked up what was going on, and, professionally went to "Plan B". Ashlee, however, decided to just leave the stage. I think if you can't dance and sing at the same time, then, don't dance. :)

The link didn't work for me, and I am kind of clueless on what happened. I take it that she was lip singing?

guster girl, she probably would have, but she had already sang "Pieces of Me" earlier on the show.
Miranda, check out the story here (http://www.cnn.com/2004/SHOWBIZ/Music/10/25/people.ashlee.simpson.ap/).

NEW YORK Oct 25, 2004 —
Singer Ashlee Simpson gets another chance to sing live perhaps on national television Monday after walking off "Saturday Night Live" in a does-she-or-doesn't-she lip-synch moment.
Simpson is scheduled to perform in Las Vegas for NBC's "Radio Music Awards," scheduled to be televised at 9 p.m. ET.

I had heard about it, but hadn't seen it yet--thanks for the link!!!
The hoe-down was great--what on earth was she thinking???
Whoooooooops... color me wrong. She's now admitted to lip synching because her voice was ragged and tired from overuse. She also said it was wrong of her to blame her band.
She made a statement on her official site, which I can't link right now because my computer is being funky. I'll post the link later on.

Oh, heck, yeah, that would have been bad! Ha, I didn't know she'd already done that song. Oh, well, at least she apologized for blaming it on her band. That's the main thing I had a problem with.

Its terrible that she blamed her band. I thought it was horrible for her to just walk off stage, leaving her band. She should of just said "wronge song band" and do the right one. Not act like a lip singing fool and do a hoe down.
