I know this probably sounds like a silly problem, but it is a problem none the less...this is what gracie does and it drives me nutz!
Whenever she wants to be picked up or I just want to pick her up, she comes to me, I reach down and then she jumps away or runs or goes backwards..all in play...thinking its a game...but I have to coax and keep it up til I "catch" her..she will jump up, I will reach down or try to get her and she runs..lol..sometimes I dont have time to play the game..I need her to stop and just let me pick her up...!! I have tried saying sit...since she sits on command, but then soon as I start to pick her up she is at it again! Now this isn't every single time..sometimes she will stay put and just get picked up..but more often than not she wants to play...I must mention that she hasn't learned "stay". Her sit only lasts til she gets the treat if we are going thru the "sit, laydown, speak" commands which we do every day.
Thanks for any help~

Ok..Like right now...I am at the puter..she barks to be picked up..jumping on my leg, I turn around to let her in my lap and she puts her butt in the air and backs up..this will go on 4 or 5 times and then she will let me pick her up! If I turn back around and ignore her, she barks again, jumps on my leg and here we go again~

Hmmm Grace is running you .... and it ought to be the other way around,,, Its a dominance thing,,,, she is saying you will do things my way or its no way,, and your buying into the game....
whenever Gracie starts this,, you will have to turn your face away and cross your arms until she comes back and stays on her own. when she does,, its lots of praise,,,, but DONT CHASE!!!! chasing is doing things her way and thats not a good idea. Gracie will soon learn that you arent willing to play her way. This will quickly come to a stop and she wont run when you lean down to her in the future. do this only about 3 to 4 times maximum.. after,, you must ignore her for at least 10 mins..... that will really tell her you are in charge.
Patience is key here!!! Hang in there,,, Doggie will give in before you do,,, and when that happens,, no more problems.
