Answering something on a previous thread I got to thinking about names.. Some of the names we give our Moggies are really strange... but I bet they all have a relevance to the people who gave the nmes\
Lilywhite (lily for short)
a whole tom cat in about 1948 he was white of indeterminate sex so mum called him Lilywhite' -big bruiser of a tom cat always beating up/getting beaten up by other Toms in neighbourhodd.
Fablsd- the only purchased cat I ever had. He moved down the road to a friend's house . she had a Burmese and and a Siames; Fablad was a Siames who knew his place and it obviously wasn't with the likes of me. Soos-ee-mow. taken from Mum too earl and would suck woolie clothing I wore. She needed a mum. she stayed for only a short while, escping to the road and a car when only 4 months old ( I will never forgive myself for her early demise. I hope she will forgive me and be waiting at the RB.
next installment at later date.. I went all misty

Well maybe some of us name our cats by some things they remind us of. Say, I had a cat named Tigger who reminded me of Tigger the Tiger on Whinnie the Pooh.

I once knew a black cat named Snowball which is a strange name for a black cat, but hey, it meant something to the owner.

Mina is named after my favorite chacter in Braham Stroker's Dracula. She reminded me so much of Mina Harper it wasn't funny.

I had a dream about Remus before I got him. I dremt I went to the shelter and an adorable little kitten caught my eye and something told me to name him Remus. The next day, I went to the shelter to *look* (yeah right) and there he was! The name just seems to fit him.

I think the cat picks the name. Grey Girl was named Ashes at the shelter but she responded when I would coo, "Oh, you're my pretty grey girl. I love my grey girl" so it stuck.

Eepie was named Angel at first because I love angels but she eeped so much as a kitten (eep! eep!) that we got to calling her Eepie.

My sister's new kitten, Oliver, was a stray she took in. She called him Little Shadow just to call him something until he got a good name. (She had a large black cat named Shadow and Oliver looks almost just like him.) The name Oliver came about because every time she would feed him, he'd ask for more!

I love your answers.
my Beast, so called because I called him that beastly cat when he climbed my net curtains (new) regularly. He wasn't the least beast like he would hang round my neck like a feather boa whilst I did house work! I eventually took down the nets and threw them away....
Puff, so called because when a kitten he had two little round objects under his tail!!!! they were black, but each hair was tipped white and my husband said they looked like two little powder puffs......
Oidygoidy named for my 3yr old daughter calling Early Girl as she heard the name. originally Early girl because she always came early for food, some times she would sit at her place mat for an hour before dinner time and I would tell her she was an early girl

My very first kitty Willie, was named after my (deceased) grandfather. My grandfather grew up in the great depression and for "fun" they did things with cats. He always would tell us these stories......I've often wondered if the stories grew a little with age, but never the less, it was my grandpa telling me a story! :)

I had my very first kitty for 2 weeks, and no name would fit. Then one day he did something, typical of my grandfather and so the name "Willie" stuck.....for the next 15 years of his life!

Though I don't tend to ever play up a cat's birth defects, like one eyed cats people say to name "Popeye", or three leggeds named "Tripod", I couldn't resist naming "Skippy" (in my siggy) that as he has a half a front leg from a birth defect. He was a very ill kitten when I rescued him 7 or so years ago, and was hospitalized with severe pneumonia. He survived it, though lost an eye during the ordeal. He does skip after me everywhere, so Skippy fits him purrfectly. :D My precious snaggle toothed vampire boy! :)

I know that people have made comments that I named my cat Trouble, she did start out with a different name, but she was always getting into Trouble, so now that's her name.

Most of mine worked out that way.
Bunny Butt started out total different but once you saw that butt running away, Bunny Butt was the only name for her.

Monkey was Cali, but after days and days of her riding on my shoulder, like one of those monkeys you see on a street corner, she became Monkey.

Sassy is Sassy becuse that's her attitude....Sassy, It was better then Meany, the name she started with. lol

Most all of them have worked out that way, after having them awhile, their names just come from thier personally. That's why I wait to name most all my new babies till after a few weeks.....The names just come better that way.

Ginger - because she is a calico with lots of orange. Louis - don't know why - my daughter named him - he is very dignified and the name suits him. Krissy (Krystal) - she is a very beautiful cat so we felt she looked like a Krystal.
