I AM SO upset.... It's 11:30 pm so I cant call the vet...-When i got home from work tonight, I picked up my sweet kitty Macy and she passed gas and then "squirted" brown diarrhea all over the wall and my arm. I cleaned everything up now, but I am worried, what is going on? What can I do? I havent changed her food, nothing is really different. Macy is a little over two years old and she is a siamese/himalayan mix. Please help...

First of all, welcome to Pet Talk, although I know how worried you must be.

If this is day one of diarrhea I would not panic. Sometimes my Persian gets the runs for a day or two then it clears up all by itself. You say you have not changed the food. Could Macy have gotten into something or perhaps chewed on a plant? Sometimes eating bugs can give kitties diarrhea.

Having a Persian, I know how messy the cleanup can be. I would confine her to a room with a her own litterbox for about 24 hours. At least that way the "mess" won't get all over the house. Also I've heard on Pet Talk that pure pumpkin or plain yogurt that you buy in the grocery store helps to bind.

Good luck and please keep us posted. BTW, Macy is one beautiful princess. :)

Macy might have giardia, a disease that has to be taken kind of seriously. Our cat Coco, who left to the RB last year, had giardia around the time when my mom first got her. I was about 5 or 6, and now I'm 13. You have to clean their behinds after they use the kitty box, and you have to clean out the litter box after they use it. If you can keep them giardia free for 7 days, your cat is cured. Cats can get this through gutter water and other places probably. I'll ask my mom for more information on this. Keep us posted! aprilynn!

Macy is a beautiful girl!!!

When my cat Casey (RB 2002) got diarrhea, my vet prescribed Pepto Bismal (1cc). Cleared it right up.

Slick may be right in that she might have gotten into something like a plant, or anything around the house she may have chewed on.

Please keep us posted.

Macy is gorgeous. Please try not to panic ... maybe she just ate something that disagreed with her tummy. However, if it continues, a vet visit it very important! Please let us know how she is doing!;)

Aprilynn,

How's your kitty doing? What did the vet say? Just curious. Hope all is well.

I took her to the vet he said that she is not digesting dry food at all - and to take her off of it completely - I did and it has worked like a charm!

That's great news. Glad to hear the diarrhea cleared up!
