View Full Version : New cage
I'm thinking of getting Ferris (ferret) a new cage for christmas... Anyone have any suggestions or pics of their ferret cages so I can get some ideas? the one I have now is two levels... Also he is litter trained and he will use his litter box but, sometimes he'll just go in the other corner as well I tried putting one in each corner but thats a bit of a hassle since most cages are built up theres not a whole lot of room on the bottom to place his food treats water etc....

You could make a giant C&C cage. They are normally pretty cheap and are good to use. Go to cavycages.com to see how to make a basic cage and you can always add on from there!
okay thanks I will definatly check it out :D

Our ferrets have a cage that is 5' tall and 3' square. It's huge. They have an upstairs where their food/water and blankies go. There are ramps and tunnels that take them up higher and they can sleep in hammocks suspended from the "roof". They can go to the downstairs, again thru tunnels and ramps to the "basement" which is entirely covered with litter so they can poop in any of the 4 corners. When they are out running around the house they will run back and hop into the cage (the basement) to go potty. This basement conversion was done cause more often than not they missed the litter boxes and I was cleaning the whole bottom anyway. The cage was expensive, but the boys have to be in it all day while am at work.

those cages are great cages, for cavies (guinea pigs) but unfortunatly they do not hold up well at all for ferrets.
I second the martins cages. Great cages!!!!!!!
*edited to add* martins will even make custom cages, so if you see one of their cages you like but want it different just tell them how you want it, you'll probably talk to Skipp, he is great!
I have my 5 ferrets in the midwest cages. The cage itself, well I & lots of other ferret owners hate them. But w/ modification they can be great cages.
I combined 2 of them, therefore took off the yucky bases, added TONS of shelves & hammys as the cages are way too tall (if a ferret were to fall from top to bottom it could become seriously hurt. I love it now.
where is martins cages do they have a website?

I'm also a big fan of Martins cages, they may not look as pretty as some of the other cages out there but the truth is your ferret won't notice! These cages aren't designed for you they are actually designed for the critters that use them. They are VERY sturdy and built to last. They are practiacally chew proof as well. The cheapest place to get them is from here
The Ferret Store (http://www.ferretstore.com/mafeca.html) because they don't charge for shipping. But you can also get them directly from their website Martins Cages (http://www.martinscages.com/)
okay thanks everyone... I will look around at all the options

I've talked to some people who say that the C&C cages work great for their ferrets. But, everyone has a different opinion. And I pretty much know nothing about ferrets, so you might want to listen to someone who does! lol
