Herman(a betta) is dieing right before my very eyes! I don't know what to do he is suffering, he is on his side gasping for breath fighting for his life! I hafta keep poking him! His ill health started when he was my sister's fish, she put him in artic cold water never cleaned or fed him, I took him from her and have been trying to nurse him back to health. His fins are very crinkled up and his color is practically gone!:( What should I do, let him suffer? Flush him down the toilet to end his misery? help! WHat would you do! Is there anyway I can save his life?!:(:(:(

Pleez someone reply I don't think he can last much longer!
If I were you I'd feed him and leave him alone... dont poke him dont flush him let him die in peace... if there is not any evidence of disease like ick for example (white spots on his fins) there's really nothing you can do... You tried your best now it's up to him to do his part. I don't think your sister should get anymore fish by the way....
leave the tank to let him feel comfortable..If we have a fish thats dying and we can't help like theres no meds to fix them we put a towel over the tank to give it peace and not have the stress of everything else... some live some die... I hope this helped a little its just hard when I can't see whats actually wrong with it... Godd luck anyways:(

Thanks SO much! And trust me my sister won't be getting anymore fish, well she has two goldfish and suprisingly they outlived all 3 of mine! I did everything right for the goldfish, goldfish just have a short lifespan(Poor Henry,Alfred & Winnifrid:( ). I sure hope this technique works....he doesn't have ick, I think he is to old to get it he is 6 months old. Anyways thanks again.
You can't be to old to get ick... I just actually bought a shebunkin (sp) with it at walmart today I felt sorry for him cuz he has ick and his one gill is ripped off so guess who has a new fish lol.... I just treated him I hope he lives... If so my other Shebunkin (sp) will have a great friend... ;)

Sounds like chlorine poisoning. Did you remember to put something in his water that gets rid of chlorine?
oooo never thought of that good idea... Did you put clorine remover in the water>?
Never thought of it Pj's mom lol funny 2 cuz I just out some in my tank today cuz I cleaned it lol

Rottie accidentally killed her beta by forgetting to add chlorine remover to the water. :( So now, it's something we never forget to do. ;)

If you already put in chlorine and chloramine remover in, and his water's around 78 degrees F and it hasn't been fluctuating, then there's probably not anything you can do for him. He could have gotten sick before you got him, and his body's just giving up. :( Are there any bubbles on the top of his water? Has he been eating? How big is his tank?
I have had a few bettas in my time. One lived for a year and a half, one for two years, and two that both lived for less than six months. Some just live longer than others. :(
I'm sorry about Herman. :(
