Over the past few weeks, I have been discovering a few, ahem, "beans" outside the litterbox every now and then!! No big deal, not hard to clean up, but I have been so stumped as to WHO is doing it and why. I could never catch either one of them in the act. Tito has NEVER had a litterbox problem in his life, so I assumed it was little Sophie, who look a bit more effort to litter train. Then, last night, I discovered it was TITO! I was shocked!
I was at my dresser in my bedroom putting on jewelry. There is a litterbox right next to my dresser, and Tito went in it. I saw him turn round and round several times, then I heard him scratching the side of the box. Then he comes out, all done. I finish what I'm doing, turn around, and there's the evidence, right next to the box!!
So, I immediately think, I have to post this on PT! I don't know why he would do that, he's never had this problem before! And as I start thinking of how to word my post, I start thinking of possible responses. I think of what I would suggest to someone with the same problem...and I realized what the problem is!
Tito loves it when I clean out the litterboxes. Both of ours are covered, and he's always trying to get in them WHILE I'm cleaning them out. I realized it's because that's the only time they're uncovered. Then I think some more, and I realize - he's too big for these boxes! They are both covered and both (now that I think about it) a bit on the small side. No problem for 6 lb. Sophie, but Tito is a lot bigger than he used to be! ;) Hence the wanting to go in it whenever it's uncovered, the turning round and round inside the box, the scratching the walls of the box, the attempt to go in the box, then giving up and finishing outside the box. So, I'm going tonight to buy a huge open litterbox with high walls that will go in our laundry room. I know he's going to love it! :D I'm so excited. I do feel bad that I didn't notice it until now, but I guess it really wasn't a problem until now either...
Just had to post that I solved my own problem (I think)! I'll keep you all updated!
