Hello, My name is Izzy.
As you will find, I am very mature and intellegent for my age.:)
I recently came across these forums when I saw the link in a book I had checked out about cats.
We (my family and I) have adopted a pet cat from the local pet store and we instantly fell in love with her. She is a 9 week old Purebred Russian Blue kitten named Sofia.
She is very smart and adorable, and is doing well.
But lately she has begun to constantly lick her private area, the purpose seems to be for pleasure. She enjoys it a lot and begins to purr loudly:rolleyes:
I did not know that cat's do this sort of thing and am wondering if I should be concerned about things such as worms, fleas, or mites.

Well, hopefully it's just curiousity that began this behavior. lol

Hello Izzy and welcome to Pet Talk! You'll just love it here and become addicted. ;)
I just adore Russian Blues and Sofia is a very pretty name:)

As far as your kitty licking, this could indicate worms, especially if she does it a lot. Since she is 9 weeks of age, ask the store if they have wormed her. They may have not.

Good luck and let us know how she's doing:D

I thought of worms, too. Has she been to the vet yet?

We took her to the vet on the weekend and there was no sign of worms. Her papers showed that she had been wormed. =/

The Vet said that it's probly just her curiousity, lol.

I guess we will just have to wait and see. Maybe she'll outgrow this 'phase'.:)

Welcome! Did the vet check for a urinary tract infection? (this was my first thought) Or if her anal glands were full? Both of these things could cause excessive licking in that area.

Has she been spayed?

No, She has not been spayed. She is far too young.
She's doing better, so I guess she'll be ok.
I'll keep you guys posted if something else turns up.
