We are hankering down and stocking up on supplies for the storm. Me and all my babies are going to my daughters house to sit it out since I live in a mobile home. I am not returning to work tomorrow as scheduled since there is no point in even TRYING to go, to much to tend to here before and (hopefully NOT) after the storm. Traffic here is already bad, long lines at the gas pumps.. TV said all hotel and Motel rooms are full in Baton Rouge already. Mandatory evacuations in the coastal areas and calling for volunteer evac in a the New Orleas area. I expect I -55 will be a parking lot tomorrow and I-10 no better. (Couldn't get to the boat if I wanted to for the traffic!)
my daughter is online so I will be able to check in until the power is out.... Then... I may be offline and in the dark awhile but I will get back to you soon as I possiably can!
Me and babies will load up and go to my daughters tomorrow so I will be around until, HOPEFULL tomorrow evening. We are just outside Baton Rouge about 10 to 20 minute drive, depending on traffic, not far from I-10. (So if you see on TV that Baton Rouge and New Orleans got squashed... we did too. ) Wish us all luck, all of us on the gulf coast, my sister in the Florida panhandle too!
Good luck. You and your family (fur and skin) will be in my thoughts and prayers.

I'm glad you aren't battling the heavy traffic enroute to work, and instead packing up & getting out. Hope all down in that area are safe, along with their pets. Prayers too that everyone will ride it out without damage.

New Orleans is now a parking lot. They have ordered them to get out and TV showed stand still traffic on the interstate down there. My brother and his family are on the west bank down there and I am sure he is/has sent her out of there but he has to stay since he is a policeman. Traffic up here has gotten far worse, my grand daughter said wal mart is a mad house, people are stealing things out of other peoples buggies and purses right and left there.
5pm news calls for the weather to start tomorrow afternoon and get worse as the time goes on so I guess I will get out of here earlier than I had planned. The storm itself will not actually hit unitl the wee hours of Thursday morning, even as late as daylight. This is NOT fun, I hate things that interrupt my "normal" life. They say right now, Mobile, Al is gound "0"...

Laura will you have trouble driving to your daughters? I'm sure traffic will be bad but will you be able to get there ok?

That drive is 2 miles or less....NO problem going there. Her son walks through the field to come from there to here because he is not allowed on the highway so if the roads are impassable after the storm, I will have him show me how to WALK through the field to come check on my house. LOL!

Wow! people stealing from the carts of others at Walmart! No security? Well, not much they can do when stealers run like the devil! That is so rude. Anyway, your daughter is 2 miles from where you live, does that mean she is 2 miles INLAND or not exactly? I guess I want to know what kind of precautions you all have to take there? Go to the basement? Tape or boards on windows? (or too far away for that kind of wind?) Do you expect your mobile home and belongings to be demolished? Did you grab sentimentals like photos and letters? High school stuff?

WELCOME MULTICATMOM!! GLAD TO SEE YOU BACK HERE! THANKS FOR YOUR EMAILS AND CONCERN! PT'ERS ARE JUST THE GREATEST BUNCH OF PEOPLE IN THE WORLD!
leslie, down in Lousiana, there are no basements, it is way to wet down here for those, rains to much, instead, most houses are up off the ground, some are WAY up...
2 miles away is no further north, that 2 miles is highway miles, it is a streight shot through the field behind her subdivision and the park I live in so it is shorter "as the crow flys". They are boarding up their windows tomorrow, neighbor told me K-Mart is boarding up now. We ARE not on the coast line here so the storm surge is not a problem for us here... we rode out Andrew in her house and all they lost was a few shingles off the roof. I will tape up my windows in the morning after I take the kitties over and have them settled in there. Yes, you take important stuff like pictures, papers and family stuff that has been passed down for generations.
I do not know what I will have when the storm is gone, no one will know until it is gone. My home it tied down so I know I will have the floor left for sure. Hopefully, we are far enough inland that it will weaken before it gets here if we get a direct hit. I repete again, we are NOT on the coast line here so that will be a help. I have a zone 2 home so it is suppose to withstand winds up to 120mph (I think it is). Down here, they are only allowed to sell zone 2 homes... we are not in a flood zone so that should not be a problem either.. Hopefully I have answered your questions as best I can.
I DO THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR PRAYERS AND GOOD WISHES! I greately apperciate every one of them!
Please allow me to add my prayers for your safety and all of your family and furbabies.
Gosh, my heart just really goes out to you having to deal with these hurricanes.
We will be anxious to hear from you and hopefully learn that all is fine.

oh i am thinking about you and told some of my co-workers about you! it is 10 minutes till midnight here and you should be getting the bad stuff soon... i do hope your mobile home holds out. they've been talking 135 mile winds all day but perhaps they have slowed down.. did you take your computer too? I'm not a religious person but anyway, prayers going your way via my beliefs in Mother Nature! (And that she spare her wrathe!) Keep us posted!
