If you remember the thread about the shelter kitties, I posted pictures of some of them.

Well, I called the shelter today to borrow a trap and Lora (the ACO) asked me if I was still interested in adopting Pinkie, the 16 year old kitty. She told me that no one would adopt a cat THAT old. My feeling is that because they needed the cage space, they were going to euthanize her, although she didn't come right out and say that.

So, here's my newest little girl. She's in my spare room sleeping in the kitty tent, getting used to her surroundings. She's a real lovebug and purrs the minute you pick her up. Although she's very shy, I think being in a cage 24/7 at the shelter also depressed her. She loves having her belly rubbed and kneads when I do. How anyone could give this precious girl angers me so. But their loss is my gain. Her name is Miss Pinkie Lee.

I am now the proud servant of this beautiful "older" lady.

You are absolutely right....one person's loss is YOUR gain!!! She is precious. How old do you figure her to be?

I still don't understand how anyone could turn their backs on my Tucker. They figure her to be around 18 years old..which would have her being born while I was still in high school. All I can think about with that is how much in my life happened before I even got to see Tucker. I would not give her up for the world. Their loss was my gain.

P.S. I love the name Pinkie Lee:) :) :)

She looks like a black-capped chickadee! And doesn't look like an older cat either. Was she an owner surrender...refresh my memory? She is a cutie...congrats to your new girl, and may she remain very healthy and happy. ;)

Welcome to a good life Miss Pinkie Lee, you look like the sweetest girl! :) No wonder you're purring away now! :D

Donna, I'm SO happy to hear you took her, I'm sure she's "over the moon" being out of that cage and living the life she deserves. :) Hopefully, she'll stay with you for years to come!

Give her extra scritchies and kisses from us.

Oh Donna, bless you for taking in this precious girl, Pinkie Lee.

I remember when you first posted about her and I thought, only a special person would adopt an older cat and BINGO, you came along.
She is so adorable. Give her belly rubs for me please.:)

She's estimated to be 16 years old, according to her vet records. According to the shelter, she doesn't eat much and her litterbox is hardly used. When I first brought her into her room, she hid in the kitty tent. I went out for a while to try and trap my friends cat who is missing. When I came back, she was a totally different cat. I called her and she came to me, giving me head bumpies and wanting her belly scratched. Her wet food had been somewhat eaten and she used the litterbox!!! She also uses the scratching post. I am head over heals in love with this precious old lady and am so glad I took her outta there. I truly believe I saved her life. While in the shelter, all she did was hide in her cage. She was very depressed.

It'll be a while before I introduce her to the others. I want her to feel comfortable in her surroundings first. But I did the shirt thing. Rubbed her down with one for MY cats and rubbed MY cats down for her so they all know each other's scents.

What a difference in her personality now that she knows someone loves her and cares for her.

And I'm still in the single digits too!!!

Poor baby! ANY that live to get that old does NOT belong in a shelter. I would suspect she had already lost her spirit and would have died on her own without someone to love her.

Just look at her, she is really a beautiful girl!! You are so lucky to have her and the way you talk about how affectionate she is, you have to know how lucky you are to have her.. LUCKY YOU!

Miss Pinkie Lee is absolutely beautiful. What a sweet face she has. It is so nice of you to take her in and save her life. It makes you wonder who would give her up at such a late age in life. But she is lucky now and will have someone to love and care for her for the time she does have left. CONGRATS on your new furbaby! and thank you for all that you do :D *kisses to Pinkie Lee*

Oh Donna, I'm so glad you were able to take her in. I remember you posting about her and I wanted to help so bad. She would have fit right in at my geriatric ward ;) but we all know that can't happen, so I'm glad you were able to show her that her long life wasn't going to end in a crappy old cage at the shelter.

She sounds like such a love bug and your story of how she's totally different now that she knows she's loved is just so heart warming.

Welcome HOME Miss Pinkie Lee! :D

OMG she is BEAUTIFUL!!! Bless her heart to have someone get rid of her at that age! They had to know that it meant almost certain death for her!
Whatever the reason for the stupid people I'm so glad Pinky Lee met you! We know she will live out the rest of her days with love and kindness. How wonderful! Thank you for being the very special person you are Donna and helping this wonderful girl. I sure am looking forward to more pictures and stories of how she adjusts.

KISSIE'S TO YOU PRETTY PINKY LEE!!!!:D :D :D

After reading her extensive medical records, it seems she had a problem using the litterbox and wasn't eating very much. Well, let me tell you, this girl not only uses her litterbox , but she has an appetite like a horse!! Her transformation from VERY shy cat who refused to show her face at the shelter, to a cat who greets me at the door and just LOVES attention. I am SO glad I adopted her. I love her so much and know that eventually, she'll be happy with my other crew.

Leslie,

I've changed my work hours. I just could NOT do 7 pm to 5:30 am. So I put in a request for days, doing the same thing. At least I'll have the evening to do laundry, clean, etc.

She's in the back room with a view, radio playing, etc. I did the old rubbing thing. You know, I rub her down with a towel and give it to my cats, and rub them and give it to Pinkie (I'm thinking of changing her name to Lacie). I'm hoping my cats will be receptive to an "older" kitty who just wants to belong.

Awwww....thank you for rescuing her! I tend to go for the older cats myself, since everyone wants the kittens. Can't wait to see more pictures!
