Before death?

I had a 13 year old German Shepard that recently died. In the hours before her death she would randomly dig holes (wich she never did before) and would pace around the house. This kept up until she layed down and passed on. Any clues to this behavior?

I have no clues as to this behavior, only a guess. Could she
have been trying to prepare herself a place to pass on ?

She was a German Shepherd Timber wolf mix...

It could be she was trying to make a place to let go....allow herself to pass on,,, much like females who try to find a nesting spot before giving birth?? just a theory,,,
