View Full Version : kennel cough
looks like our club may have to pull from the flyball tourny in saskatoon this comming weekend, we will wait till friday to decide, but basicly one member of the club saw a dog coughing at the tourny 8 days ago, and now last night and today more then half of the clubs racing dogs(and some of the non racing dogs) have started coughing, including the height dogs for both the teams.. that means Ripley, he started this morning, he had a fit in my room, and now he is really getting wheezie and sounds like he is gonna hack something up, same thing all the others described as well. so we have to see how this unfolds and we may have to pull, problem is because were a;ready entered we still have to pay the entry fee's if we pull :( sigh.. pray for all the coughing puppers! :(

I'm sorry you might miss your competition.
We get kennel cough through the area at least once a winter. It starts with one musher and spreads like wildfire through every dog team for miles. It's a hassle, but for most dogs it's not a serious illness.
Hope your pupper is feeling better soon.
it seems only a few dogs are still hacking, Ripley however has had several fits tonight, 1 pretty bad one, it looked like her was having trouble keeping himself standing he was hacking so hard
:( the thing is one dog owned by a member of the club can not get kennel cough, he is very sick and weak at the moment and kennel cough could litterally be fatal to him if he got it. the one dog is her house that hacked a bit last night has not coughed since, so that could have just been a coinidance, however Nitro, Ripley, Cabri, at least are still hacking alot, I am not sure about some of the others that were coughing though..

Oh dear KC is a pain in the butt. I hope poor little Ripley is feeling better soon.
After our very first Flyball comp Clover got KC realy bad and it was over a month before she was back to normal. After that i vaccinated against it and will continue to vaccinate against it Once every 2-4 years. Yeah the Vacc only covers 2 out of 7 strains but it has seemed to help and she has only had 1 minor dose of KC since the first time (About a week of minor coughing).
I hope all of the dogs are feeling better soon, please keep us updated.
the KC vaccin has always been pretty usless around here, everysingle time there is a KC outbreak dogs get it vaxed or not lol Ripley is still hacking a lot today, he sounds like a goose lol

How do you know if your dog has KC? Samantha hacks every once in awhile but only after she's laying in a weird position and I just thought it was because of that.

If she had kennel cough, she would be hacking alot, almost constantly when the disease is at it's height. She would be lethargic, not eating and would bring up a white foam when she hacks. The cough generally lasts 2 weeks, but can take up to a month to fully clear.
It doesn't sound to me like Samantha has kennel cough.
