Former President Clinton Admitted to Hospital
Friday, September 03, 2004
NEW YORK — Former President Bill Clinton (search) has been admitted to
a New York hospital, a source confirmed to FOX News Friday.
The president is undergoing tests at Columbia Presbyterian Hospital
(search). A source confirmed that Clinton was admitted after
encountering a blockage in his arteries. The tests come with an eye
towards heart bypass surgery within days.
"When someone is found to have an obstruction ... we usually do an
angioplasty," said Fox News health contributor Dr. Isadore Rosenfeld.
Rosenfeld said an angioplasty involves a balloon being inserted into
the artery to expand it. If that does not appear to be effective, the
patients are usually taken into surgery.
A family friend close to the former president told FOX News that
Clinton experienced chest pains a few days ago while at his home in
Chappaqua, N.Y., and was taken to a local hospital. The sources said
that Clinton had angioplasty done in the last day or two, but the
results showed the problem was more serious than first anticipated, so
he was transferred to Columbia Presbyterian, one of the top heart
hospitals in the nation.
Clinton is one of the youngest presidents to have entered office,
having been first elected in 1992. In July, he appeared at the
Democratic National Convention, where he gave a rousing speech to
rally support for John Kerry.

Reuters says he will have a quadruple bypass. Yikes.
My thoughts are with him.

This is a common health issue among Americans (possibly others, too), but not one that I would wish on anyone! Even if the procedure is "common", the recovery from open heart surgery is very difficult, but the prognosis is good. He will be in my prayers.

At our facility we see about 5-7 coronary bypass grafts each day...
A CABG or 'cabbage' take anywhere from 3-5, 6 hours....
It can involve 1,2-up to 5 blood vessels. A quad bypass is a long procedure- depending on the shape of the valves, blood vessel wall......In the five years that I have seen the paperwork on CABGs I can't remember seeing any operations with any type of serious complications.....mostly post op bleeding, but that is a real rarity.
The recovery is tough and as long as he is in the hospital he's in good hands....:)
He'll be o.k.!
Prayers for President Clinton along with his wife and daughter who are by his side.
May he recover quickly.

I was so happy to hear that he did great and is, as they say, "resting comfortably.":) Well, I can tell you, he's probably less than comfortable;) I'm so happy for his family.
I also heard on the news and radio that all went well. :D
