Christiansmommy's thread about her soffits got me thinking and wondering what all of your kitchens look like. :)

We recently redecorated and now have a 'vineyard' theme. Here are a few pics.

Our kitchen is a disgrace. It's huge and in desperate need of redecorating. The carpet (I hate carpets in kitchens) is disgusting, and the cupboards are older than I am.

I'll post pictures after we've redecorated, which at this rate will be in about 5 years :rolleyes: Hold that thought! :p

Great kitchen theme, micki! Of course, I'm biased....I LOVE wine!! :D

I'm hoping to get some ideas also from this thread. I have a lot of "above cabinet" space and I really like the idea of putting something up there, but how easy is it to clean? How tempted will the kitties be by whatever I put up there? I really like the green vines and all. Is it easy to do? I'm definitely decorator challenged! :o

Whole kitchen

The counters look black in the pictures, but they are really baltic brown granite. Its hard to take pictures of shiny surfaces from a distance while showing their true colors at the same time, because of the reflection. Popcorn and Muffin LOVE to walk on the counters and fireplace (which is the same granite), and stare down at their reflection. :p

As you can see, we have space above the cabinets because of the high ceilings. I would love to decorate it with grape vines like Robyn did. :D

We actually have a large dining room outside the kitchen, which has a huge table in it. The table you see is in the kitchen nook. That's where we eat everyday.....the dining room is mainly for guests. I've never eaten there in my life. :o But then...we just moved into this house two months ago. :p You can kinda see the dining room through the front entrance to the kitchen if the last picture.

Micki...i really like your Tuscan/vineyard theme...very nice!!

BTW, my counter tops look like a plain flat tan in the pics, but they really have flecks of darker browns and blacks and dark tans in them to make them look like a marbly finish (although they aren't corian or anything)...and our fridge is tiny :) But my father in law and i made matching maple handles for it, to match the maple cabinets, so i will use it until it bites the dust ;)

Everyone's kitchens are beautiful! Kitchens are definately my favorite room of the house. I love watching HGTV and TLC home decorating shows, and always pay close attention to the kitchens. Right now, my kitchen has no decorations because that is my foster puppy area. I've got a large pen in it, a couple crates, and lots of toys, food and water dishes, hehehe. I'll be moving in a few months and can't WAIT to redecorate my kitchen.

Nicole, I knew we'd get to see your infamous pink kitchen again! :D

Karen, it's actually pretty easy to clean. Once every 6 months I pull everything down and give it a good cleaning. Once a week, I use the long handle swiffer duster on everything. Of course, I'm not one to cook, so my kitchen never has any grease residue or anything.

I cook so little that I use my oven to store paper towels and paper plates. :o

I dont have a picture of mine but we just moved and we are painting it a cucumber melon and the cpboards are white the floors are a cherry wood I will try to get a picture of it

The picture is not very good but I LOVE my kitchen and this is our first home - so here it is:) It is part of a family room or Great room they call it, very large and open with room for a table and chairs and I can watch the TV or enjoy the fireplace in the winter. Everyone just gravitates to this area, even though we do have a living room and dining room!

The "theme" is herbs which is on the wallpaper, dried herbs hang above the sink and are painted on some of the tiles. My dishes are also herb patterned:) Wish the picture was more clear!! I will have to take a new one soon.

ha, after seeing these you guys do NOT want to see my kitchen! lol lets see its huge(there is no possable way to get the whole kitchen in one shot lol) there is a bag of flour on the floor, 2 kennels, balls of dog hair everywhere, water jugs all over the floor, dishes and papers all over the counters, coats, and baskets of junk all togetherm 2 garbage bins(because the kitchen is so big, one on either end lol) tops of the cupboards covered with dust, and tools, on top of 2 stools is a carboard box with some dirt in it(not sure WHY exactly...) lol just trust me, it is not even close to presentable!

I love the pink kitchens, Anna and Nicolle!!!! :D So bright and fun!!!! I think my own kitchen is quite boring. I miss my old kitchen with the white cabinets, white countertops and yellow and white striped wallpaper, hardwood floor, and the fun glass topped patio table we used. This house just isn't suited for that kind of bright coloring and if I suggested that we paint our maple cabinets, my husband might have me committed! LOL!!!!

This is what my kitchen used to look like. Right now it's in the middle of a slight renovation.

I'm shortening the peninsula by a foot and replacing the countertops, changing the dishwasher to a black-faced one and replacing the 4-burner white glass top stove with a black 2-burner. Lower cabinets have been out for a month and it looks like another 2-3 weeks of no sink.

The cabinets are oak, about 13 years old and still as good as new.

NOOO WAAAAY are you guys going to get to see mine... mine will look like a DUMP after seeing all of these.

Lets just put it this way.... it's small... in an old house and I still have holes and chunks missing from the walls when my hubby put up a shelf for my TV and hung the microwave above the stove.:o

It's so sad because I want my kitchen to be my favorite room... but ours is so small. Sigh..... maybe in my next house....:(

Me too Logan!! I would help Scott drive you there! LOL!! The one thing that always made me cringe when I watched Trading Spaces (don't watch it any more) is when they would paint over real wood! YIKES!!!! :eek:

You know I don't think this thread was meant to make anyone feel uncomfortable. It is sort of like the next best way to invite fellow Pet Talkers into our homes and the kitchen is the heart of the home really. For those who don't feel comfortable about posting their kitchens don't feel badly. Most of us older folks have had a couple of houses already and started out with kitchens that we look back on in horror ;) and many I am sure had a "handyman's special." It is natural to dream and envision something different for the future. Life is full of change and change can be fun. Muffruff I love your kitchen right now. Can't even envision making it better, but we all get tired of things the way they are don't we? Nothing wrong with that. Please keep these pictures coming if you feel comfortable, and if you don't that's OK too. ;)
