Hi,
I am having a problem with my 1 1/2 year old beagle mix(Luv Bug), all she does is chew on every thing, she has every toy under the sun, she likes to play with them, but she likes chewing on things shes not allowed to chew on. Luv Bug sleeps in my room, sleeps all night and wakes up around 6o' clock in the morning , but i guess in the middle of the night she gets up and chews and chews and chew, she chewed open a pillow and my channel changer and ripped open her bed.

What can I do.

perhaps spraying things she shouldnt chew with bitter apple spray might help.... also,, try filling a kong toy with a treat... .?
also,, look for books by Dr Stanley Coren.. he is very good with doggie advice!!!

My dog likes to chew a lot too, although he does not chew furniture or stuff he's not supposed to. How old is your dog? He might just be at the puppy stage where he needs to chew. My cousins used to put pepper on all the stuff he used to chew, so every time he would sneeze he came near it, and did not want to chew on it or like Loraine said a bitter apple spray or something of that sort. Good luck! Keep us updated.

I gave this advice for a digging problem as well but it does work. stuff a kong toy with something your dog loves, favourite food, treats, peanut butter. Give it to her/him at night when he is bound to chew. It has to be that he can get at whatever you stuff the kongs with, but not too easily. This will keep him busy while you sleep.
The other option of course is to combine the kong with crate training and make his crate his bed/den where he sleeps at night and can't get at your stuff to destroy it. He'll have the kong in there with him,so should adjust to the crate as a happy place.

Oh yay, I'm so happy! I helped someone.:D I'm glad it worked and now you don't have stuff chewed up. Good job Lorraine! Mission accomplished!:)
