Good dog books??

Im going to buy another book from the book store soon, a dog book, of course :p

I own this zen dog book. You read a page every day! Its so cute. So arn't the pictures. I'll get the auther and title so you can check it out! its a really good book with good meanings!

oooh!!! Because Of Winn Dixie!!! I LOVED that book! It is cute/sad/happy/touching... but of course has a happy ending! :D

The Culture Clash by Jean Donaldson (Excellent training book)

This isn't really a dog book but it does relate to the way to train dogs.. Don't shoot the dog by Karen Pryor.

If you like mysteries, I recommend the Bloodhound series by Virginia Lanier. :)

A book called "Snake's don't miss their mothers."

It's an AWESOME novel, that i just finished reading. It's about these animal's being in a shelter, and it's like the point of veiw from them.

I recommend it.

Honest dogs & My lead dog was a lesbian-both by Brian O'Donaghue. One is about the Quest and one the Iditarod. Hilarous!

I rocommend "Canine Caperby Rose Block and Deliah Ahrendt. It's a great book, but, also very, very sad.

I highly recommend "Pack of Two" by Caroline Knapp (I'm pretty sure that's her name). I heard of that book on PT, when I bought it I didn't put it down til I was finished.

Also, the book that tells about the Best Friends Animal Sanctuary in Utah is fabulous.

I love the book Canine Caper, its really sad but rewarding the end. It's about a lady that is trying to rescue neglected dogs.

Anything James Herriot. My favorite is Dog Stories So quaint and sweet!

Amazing Gracie...A Dog's Tale written by Dan Dye and Mark Beckloff, the owners of Three Dog Bakery. Gracie's refusal to eat commercially prepared food was what prompted the two to start experimenting with doggie treats and a bakery was born. A real tear jerker and a great story! I remember seeing Gracie often on TV before her passing:(

Dogs Never Lie About Love Author escapes me but a great read.

The Hidden Life of Dogs by Elizabeth Marshall Thomas. I think Glacier would love this one!

The Intelligence of Dogs...Canine Consciousness and Capabilities by Stanley Coren

Dog Love by Marjorie Garber

The Dogs Who Came to Stay By George Pitcher A beautiful memoir about a amazing stray and her pup who "came to stay!" Family photos, beautiful drawings, a great true story of unconditional love!

And more of a pictorial essay but a hoot...
If only you knew how much I smell you! True portraits of dogs SO funny!

And my favorite all time doggie book....

Dogs and Their Women by Barbara Cohen. A compilation of brief stories, recounting the special relationship women throughout the century have shared with their dogs, with the funniest, sweetest, most touching pictures. Some of the women (and dogs) are famous, most not, all special:) It's by a local author (Cape Cod) but is available through most book stores. Any woman who has ever shared that indescribable bond of love with a canine should read it!

I've read that book actually and her other one "the Social lives of dogs". I have some issues with much of what she says--particularly her feelings about euthansia and altering dogs. However, I do tend to agree with her that what dogs want most is other dogs. I've certainly seen that in some of my own dogs.

Ive read tonnes of doggy books.. mostly dealing with obedience and social stuff. whenever I have to read a book for school (which is.. all the time) and write a report on it, I go out and get a dog book :p

I gave that Hidden Life of Dogs to Kay to read. Wonder if she ever did? Also, Pack of Two by Carolyn Knapp. Only got half the book read and had to turn it in to library. Need to get it again and finish it.

Those are the ONLY ones out of ALL those books that are at my local chapters store!!

James Heriot's Dog Stories and Where the Red Fern Grows... James Heriot was an English vet, and one of my fav. authors... great stories! And Where the Red Fern Grows is just a great classic.

I just looked up that James Herriot one, and theyre all out of stock! I'll check again another time :)

A really good one is The Dog Listener by Jan Fenell. It's sort of...behavioural training...but not exactly. Hard to explain, but it shows alot of neat things from the dogs point of view.

Well i just started reading it. Im only on the first chapter -- In a way im dissapointed because i thought it was a novel. But have still been reading it, and love it so far :p

I've read Dogs Never Lie About Love and The Intelligence of Dogs, both of which I enjoyed a lot. I have also read all the James Herriot books multiple times, they are still some of my very favorite books. To this day I can laugh and cry as I read his experiences.

There are plenty more but either I can't remember titles or authors or both at the moment. The two Chicken Soup books on pets are very good though, I think the first is Chicken Soup for the Pet Lover's Soul, and the second Chicken Soup for the Cat and Dog Lover's Soul. They aren't JUST about dogs, but they have so many wonderful stories.

I own her Pup book, and I love it.
