Has your pet been professionally groomed?

The poll got me wondering, does your pet go to a groomer?

My Rottie and Toller mix go to the groomers regularly. I take them to wags to whiskers, I think they do a great job.

Yes, Max the Persian goes to the groomers about twice a year because he won't let me comb his back end :rolleyes: so he has to get shaved.

Bella goes every six weeks. I bathe her and do her face and cut her toenails at the mid-point (3 weeks). I have only ever done Ripley myself.

In the past hubby and I groomed all of our poodles. We thought it would be a good idea to get Bella accustomed to a groomer since we aren't getting any younger and if the day should come when grooming her is too much of a handful. Ripley is easy as pie. I pop him in the kitchen sink for his bath and he stands still as a statue when I turn on the clippers. ;)

No and No for Trevor and Andy. :) They groom themselves and hopefully are doing a good enough job. :)

Well I work at a grooming salon, I guess I can be considered a "professional" and I groom Nebo, Reggie, and Sydney...does that count? ;)

Brittany's are supposed to be groomed but we dont groom Sally. I brush her after bathes, and her nails get clipped-and painted!!- But has never been groomed profesionally.

I groom all my animals myself. Bitsy is the only one who needs her hair cut and actually I did that yesterday. The other 3 dogs just need baths and their nails trimmed and the cats just get their nails trimmed.

Kodie doesnt need to go b/c he's shorthaired,and we bathe him ourselves,and we never had to cut his toenails b/c they stay nice and short!:)

Prince went once and that wasn't a good experience at all, so he hasn't went back since. I am thinking we are going to bring him to a groomer next spring though.

Digger, Chubby, and Otis have never been to a groomer. They are quite easy to groom. They get a bath, get their toe nails clipped, brushed, etc. :)

I have also bathed my cats before, but I did that at home not at work.

Disney goes regularly. I try to take her about every 10 weeks but this last time it was about 14 weeks and she was getting pretty shaggy.

Since Peej is a Cocker, he's groomed about once a month, much to his dismay, of course. :D

Bailey only needs her ear hair and foot hair cut, so we do that every time she has her bath. :)

yes, i have Jesse professionally groomed every 4-6 weeks. plus i work at our groomers! :D

My mom had a bad experince with her dog teddy. She took him to a groomer who knew NOTHING about grooming shelties, she wanted to cute off his hair on the back of his legs. Not only that when we went to pick him up one of the customers out in the parking lot stopped us and said that the groomer was rough with Teddy and that she would never take her dog back after watching the way she dealt with him and that my mom shouldn't either :eek: We were wondering because poor teddy walked out of there with his tail between his legs :(


My dad recently asked me if I would take Nova to the groomers because of her crazy shedding and I said NO WAY! The only way I would do it would be if I could stand right there and watch EVERYTHING they did.

I know some groomers aren't bad, but there are those bad ones, and thats what scares me.

The forelegs well feathered, the hind legs heavily so, but smooth below the hock joint. Hair on tail profuse. Note: Excess-hair on ears, feet, and on hocks may be trimmed for the show ring.

If you mean trimming the hair off of the hocks as the back of his legs, most groomers (that I'm aware of) do this. Also, at least where I work, *many* people request that the feathering on the back of the legs/hindquarters be trimmed. I don't trim anything but the feet and hocks unless asked, but I don't find it all that uncommon to have a groomer trim the back of the legs.

I groom (Wash, Brush, clean ears, clip nails, etc) my dogs every week, so no they do not go to a professional.

I have clipped nails of, cut fur, bathed, cleaned ears, and all of that to many other people's dogs and often get payed by my mother's co-worker to do his dog, Trent.

I'd be more than happy to do it free of charge though. I enjoy it for the most part. ;)

Really? My mom has used about 5 diffrent groomers (not including this one) while she has had Teddy (10 years) and none of them have ever asked to cut them off? Weird. All the places we go do trim them so they look neat, but don't cut them completly off like this women wanted to do.

Noah is the only one we take to the groomer and that's for his yearly lion cut. This year, I was worried it would upset him like last time (we usually have to put him under anesthesia and I hate doing that), so I had my friend (a vet tech) come over and we shaved him.

He hated it, but at least he got to stay home and get tortured by me and not a stranger...

Molly goes about once every two months, and Daisy's only been to the groomers a couple times. She's so easy to groom, since she doesn't have very long fur, nor a thick undercoat. Molly's hair is longer, of course, so it's nice that she goes to a groomer every once in a while. I'm happy with our groomer, but I'm thinking of trying Petco one of these days. I've heard good results from people who have taken their dogs to Petco, so maybe I'll book an appointment one day.

Molly's never had her fur trimmed.. except for a little around her bum and tail in the summertime.

I groom myself. My Giant gets brushed regulary(schnauzer beards can get messy) and clipped every 3-4 weeks. I'm picky I don't like her getting scruffy. :rolleyes: :D

I can't answer to this one b/c my pet isn't a cat or dog. It's a bunny and no he doesn't get professionally groomed, b/c he looks great the way he is. He doesn't need no expensive makeover to make him look beautiful!

No, I do not take my dog to the Groomer. I don't know what they would possibly be able to do to her that I can't do at home! :p Even if I had a long haired dog I don't think I would take her to a groomer simply because I would enjoy doing it, and its bonding time. :D So, nope Heidi's never been to a Groomer. I do all the grooming at home-ear clean, nail clipping, brushing, bathing, etc. :)

Reece (dog) goes about every 6-8 weeks.

Lolly and the cats don't go at all. I bathe Lolly myself because she is terrified of the groomer and she doesn't need to be cut like Reece does anyway. Reece loves going because they spoil him.

Took Josie when she was a tiny baby . . . she had fleas really bad. We tried to bathe her ourselves, but it didn't help much. The groomer got tons of fleas off of her. Still didn't get them all though, but it helped. Just traumatized her for awhile ;) Cats don't take well to water, I've learned.

I groom our dogs myself a long with other family members pets and for a couple of neigbors, and other's who show in conformation. I specialize in show and pet clips on poodles; since we raise (on occasion)/train/show Miniature Poodles; and no one around here knew how to properly groom a poodle for show (though many claimed to and ended up really messeing them up. :S And a show coat takes around a year to grow, so when they messed up it wasn't a quick fix!) But I have done some other breeds (and mixes) too.

yea, i have a turkish angora cat, her hair is really long and fluffy. she is really, really, really old so she can't groom herself any more, so we take her in the summer to get most of her hair shaved(not bold)she looks like a lion when she comes home(really cute) we actually noticed that she became happier after her cut.

I've never once taken any of my animals to a grooming salon. I guess I've just never felt the need to (with the exception of my RB cat Sara, whose fur would constantly mat -- but she would have scratched the groomers face off, so we couldn't take her in).

All of my animals are groomed by me, and I get paid to groom other people's dogs and cats. :)

But I am going to be a dog groomer, so I guess you could say that my animals will be "groomed professionally." ;)

Oggy & Flute go to the "Puppy Parlor" about every 10 weeks. We like to get the traditional schnauzer cut on them, except in summer, when we give them a full clip due to the heat.

Unless you count me and my mother as professionals, we've been grooming our dogs as well as other people's dogs for over 15 years. I don't trust taking a dog to the groomers unless I am there the whole time. There are an awful lot of groomers who abuse peoples animals when they drop them off and leave them there. Our first dog went once and came back with razor burns, cut quicks in her nails, and an incredible fear of the groomer and anybody else that handles her. She is even afraid, 14 years later, when my mom brushes her or touches her paws.
