Cosequin

Has anyone ever used Cosequin for there cats?? Bear just started it about 4 days ago,its supposed to help her walk,and help her joints.Since,she is getting old,19 in November:eek:
well if your cats have taken it,how did it work for you???

its the caplets that you open and sprinkle in their food and mix it in.and she takes it once a day.

Sammy, what is this "consequin" and what is it for? Is it a Rx from the vet? I have a 1 year old kitty with nerulogical damage that has problems and I am always on the look out for anything that might help her since weather and stress effects how bad she gets. They have given her cortizone shots now and then and while they don't seem to help her get around any better, they do seem to make her feel better and more active.. like I said, I am always on the look out.

Cosequin has chondroitin sulfate and coenzyme Q 10 (I think!) These are both used in the body to build and maintain joint cartilage. It is used in dogs, cats, horses and people, and is quite safe. I don't think it would help neurological kitties.

Tubby gets one capsule of Cosequin a day, and I have noticed a difference since I've been giving it to him.

Laura, Cosequin is for the joints, I really don't believe it would have any effect on Amy. I know you're always looking for something that would help her, but I don't think this is what you're looking for.

Sammy, my Tubby is a little over 18 now, almost as old as your Bear. Catsnclay is another here that has her senior cat on Cosequin and I remember she said she has noticed a difference also. I still notice times when Tubby has some difficulty with his back legs, but I do see a difference in him since taking the Cosequin.

Good luck with Bear, and if possible, we'l love to see a pic of her. Any kitty that makes it to almost 19 deserves to have her picture plastered all over the net. ;) :D

im happy to hear that the Cosequin works for Tubby!:D i havent really seen a big improvment but she still had a whole box of them left so it might take a while before it starts to take affect on her.

OMG! Sammy, how did you get Tubby into your home!? :D Bear looks exactly like Tubby except Tubby has a bit of white on his chest and on his tummy. And he sleeps like that too with his back legs out straight and his front legs curled under him. :D

And yes, it will take a little while before you see any results. These aren't like antibiotics where you see almost immediate results. I believe Tubby is on his 3rd box now. Also, I think the improvement is so gradual that it's hard to notice. You just have to pick out an activity that Bear had difficulty with before, then pay attention to how that activity changes over the next few months. For Tubby it was using the litter box. He couldn't squat as good as he used to be able to, so he'd often "over shoot" the litter box. He rarely does that these days so I know he's improved.

thanks! i know that its not like anit-biotics but she 's been missing the litter for a while and would pee all over the floor,but now she doesnt miss it! and she started scratching after she goes so now there litter all over the floor.:rolleyes: thanks for all your responses!!

Cosequin is also used to re-line the bladder in kitties.

Livvy was on it when she had her UTI and it really helped with her joints too. She LOVED it, it tastes like tuna. :)

They put Hazel on this for her bladder.

Cosequin is also given to help a cat's bladder. The inner lining of the bladder wall is protected by a layer, which contains some of the same compounds as are found in cartilage. This layer prevents urine and the waste products contained within it from seeping into and damaging the lining. Since the components of Cosequin are available to more than just cartilage cells, the bladder may use them to help support this protective layer. Since Hazel had blood in her urine, they prescribed this to see if it helps.
