I went to the shelter today. Hannah is doing great. Lora, the ACO, decided to split the three feral kittens up and foster them. Guess who I got??? The little black kitten, the last hold out...GALEN!!!!!
I have his cage set up with a little hammock in it. I went into the room a minute ago and he hissed at me. The minute I take him out, he starts purring. The key is to get him to COME to me. So...tomorrow morning, I'm going to get some turkey baby food. They LOVE it and it'll help me coax him a little (okay, so I'm cheating...whatever works!)
I'll post pictures soon, I promise.

Oh, you know your stuff.
You are the ALPHA now, the giver of foods. :)

I'd say in this context that cheating works. ;) Good luck and thanks for letting us know.

This morning I went in and this is what I found...

When I opened the cage door, he rolled on his back and started purring. Unfortunately the camera wasn't within reach. :(

He still hisses at me, but he's definitely coming around. I give him a week or so before he'll be ready for adoption.
And the answer is NO, I'm NOT keeping him. I know you guys only too well. :p

Aw, he's gorgeous! I have a soft spot for black kitties, as 2 of our 3 fall into that category.:)

You know he would love some low sodium deli turkey! or some roast beef, or could ya boil him and the others up some chicken livers? (they are very cheap! and delicious!)- or so say the cats! He's a beauty! And he's an adoptable in a week or 2- the trick is getting him to be adoptable at the darn pet store or shelter where their are kids yelling, dogs barking etc, It's easy to socialize him to YOU! Increasing the noise and stress = return to under bed! As long as new owners understand that and how to re-socialize him! Well, you know all this a million times over, i'm just venting cuz I'm worried about my little feral kitten that went into a new foster home last week- Polly. Worried that she won't be treated right or what? I have no reason to worry!

This beautiful baby is such a MUSH!!! I let him out of the cage and he's doing GREAT!!!! He's got free run of the room and purrs the minute I walk in the door. He wants to come out of the room to see what's out here, but he hasn't been tested for the usual kitty diseases because of his age. Once he turns 12 weeks, then he'll be tested and go back to the shelter for adoption.
This was no challenge, it was a cake walk!!! ;)

Leslei...not to worry, Polly (renamed Sweetie Pie by Maryanne's grandchildren) is doing terrific! And my three ferals are coming around slowly, but surely as well. It helps having more than one person to interact with these feral babies. That's our problem...Leslie lives alone, and my husband is always busy. Moosmom...Galen is a silky looking sweetie....and when he's off and adopted, I'm sending some to Michigan! :D

Jan has 2 kittens with no eyes and one with one eye- jan correct me if i get this backwards or sideways- anyway- to slingshot them over would mean you REALLY do have to be standing in the right place at the RIGHT time and CATCH them- cuz they won't see you and be able to steer themselves in your direction! thanks for volunteering to go into further poverty over cats! what a doll you are!
How are you anyway?

Leslie,
I'm doing okay. Poverty? Hey, what's money anyway?? It only pays the bills and feeds me.
Staci,
I'll definitely keep you guys posted. I'm going to talk to Lora tomorrow and see what she suggests I do. He's a real snuggle bug. Only problem is the noise and rumble of the shelter MAY have adverse effects on his feralness. Let's hope not!
