Ok, well I was just wondering something.
How much does your dog food cost, how big is the bag, how long does it last, and what kind is it?
And if you don't feed your dog bagged food...well you can give an estimate, otherwise it doesn't matter.:) Thanks, I just want to get some ideas on how much money I should be saving for Major's food.

I feed Pro Plan Sensitive Stomach.
A 37.5 pound bag is $31.99 and it lasts 3 weeks. I mix in a very small amount of canned. One can is $1.09 and it last 3 feedings.
So... on average it costs me about $16/week to feed my pups.
(not to mention treats and pig's ears... and all the other good stuff in life.....)
I feed Canidae:
The place I purchase it, has
a good price:
20 pound bag is $17.99,
I think the 40lb bag is around $27.00.
(they get a little people food mixed with their kibble)

I feed 3 of mine Sensible Choice, which costs a little under $20 for a 20 pound bag--it lasts 2 weeks.
Riley gets Science Diet OC, which costs about $25 for a 20 pound bag, and it lasts a month.

Maria, just wondering, didn't you feed major a raw diet? Or am I thinking of another lab owner?
I was just curious cause if you did & now are thinking of a bagged food, if I can ask, why?
I am thinking about switching my dogs to raw so any insight would help?
Anyways I feed canidae, I get it for about $32 for 40lbs (depending on where I buy it). It lasts me about a month.
My dogs also get some raw meat everyday & sometimes other people food which I would GUESS is ABOUT $30 a month.
I feed RAW, lets see, we get most of our bones for free from the butcher. they get turkey when it is on sale, and they get chicken often, we get chicken backs and necks from another butcher for $5 for a great big box of em. we also buy chicken thighs from the grocery store often, that stuff is really cheap though, but I dont knwo the exact amount, 1 box of those feeds 5 dogs for 3-4 days, the free bones last about a month depending on how many we happen to take at one time. the cheickan backs and necks last several days at well cuz those are for the little dogs not the big ones lol. the veggie slop is made from the same veggies we eat so that does add to the cost, also blended in is berries that have started to go bad, and tops and peelings of fruits and veggies, so nothing is waisted. so approx.$10-15 added to regular people shopping costs feeds 5 doggies for a month or more :D

Nope, I don't feed Major raw. He eats Ol' Roy, and as soon as his bag runs out (or is getting close) I want to switch it. I think I will feed him Purina ONE or I might try the raw, but I want to be doing it right. Cali - any links about raw would help me, if you have them of course!
guster_girl is the one who feeds raw to her yellow lab puppy Finn ;)
Maria I dont have any links because I lost them all lol when my computer got a virus a few weeks ago it killed the comuter and the hardrive needed wiped, I lost everything, including the RAW diet links I had lol but I will try to find em again for ya :)

I feed Natural Balance and it's $21 for a 17 lb. bag (I think). They also get a small amount of canned food mixed with their dry, but I don't remember how much that costs. I'm not sure how long it lasts me, I just get more when I need more.

It costs us about $50 (Canadian) for the largest bag of Chicken Soup. I can't remember how big it is exactly though. It lasts us about 2 months.
I'm thinking of switching back to raw though. Kaedyn's teeth are going horrible and Kai's teeth, which were once tarter free, are now gross and full of plaque. They're both starting to itch pretty badly too.
MariaM, here are a whole bunch of raw feeding links. Some might be against the diet though.. I try to research both sides of the fence.

Ours is $54.99 for 40 pounds, including shipping. I buy 80 pounds per month, but probably use 60. I like having some extra on hand, just in case, so we don't run out. I am on automatic shipment with Flint River Ranch so I don't have to haul it myself, the poor UPS man does. :)
My dogs (all 4) eat the Senior Plus formula.

we get Hund-N-Flocken by Solid Gold, usually in a 15-lb bag for $20. It last 2-3 months, because its such good quality that he doesnt need more than 2 cups per day. We buy the 15-lb instead of 30-lb because it stays fresher. I also get atleast 5 cans of Solid Gold wet food in the Lamb, Chicken, and Beef flavors to mix in as a supplement. Those are only $1 each ;)! Solid Gold is soo awesum! oh, he also gets cottage cheese, yogurt, or meat mixed in with his kibble and a couple raw meaty bones a week, which are very cheap. At our grocery store, they give us knuckle bones for free since we buy there all the time.. and the butcher is cool!

Nutro Natural Choice, which runs about $1 a pound or so.... So a big 50 lb bag costs around $48, but since I've got 4 dogs it maybe lasts a month... But they occasionally get special raw treats, eggs, bones, etc. :)

Ok, I'm depressed now. ;) ;) Everyone get a 20lb or 40lb bag to last them WEEKS!!!! I so wish.
A 20lb bag last me 3 day and of couse a 40 lb bag last me 6 days. Then I have to add in the two dogs that only get can food, so that's 2 can's a day for them at around a $1 a can.
So in one weeks time, I spend about $40 a week give or take. That's $160 a month and that's not adding in Cannilla's special food because of her cancer.
Now I'm wondering if I feed them to much. But they are not over weight, except Odie.

The girls eat Natural Balance Ulta Premium. It cost $34.99/35lbs.
Their food usually lasts about a month (give or take a few days)

Clover and Elvis are on Purina Working dog formula at the moment a 20 Kilogram/ 44 pound bag of that cost $25 (Aus) and lasts them a couple of months. I think i may switch Clover to something with less fat though.
They also get raw meaty bones a couple of times a week at about $3 for a big bag, maybe 2 kilograms/ 4.4 pounds.
And i mix either beef mince or a little tinned food in with their dry/ kibble. A can is about $1.20 each and last one meal for 2 dogs.
I feed my 2 medium to large dogs for about $10 or less a week. :D

We get a medium size bag for each dog... not sure how many lbs that is... for $15-$20. It usually lasts them about two weeks. Unless it's "Kibbles and Bits", which lasts a little less since the dog food is bigger.

When I had RB Max, I fed him Nutro Natural Choice Senior. after tax it was about $50.00 for a 50p bag & that lasted about 3 months. He only ate 2 cups of food & once in a while he would ask for a 3rd by nosing the bag. But if we gave him 3 cups when he didn't ask he'll only eat the 2 cups & leave the rest. He was fed once a day in the mornign & what ever was left over was put up on the table until the next morning.

I think the dog food I buy (Natural Balance) is about $34.99 for a 35 lb bag. With my discount it ends up around $27 something. It lasts at least 2 months, if not longer...Nebo doesn't eat much.
