This would be Matilda whom I rescued from the wheels of oncoming garbage truck-dom.

Any ideas on her "flavor"? :D
(She is a she, right? )

I was going to say "Box Turtle" off the top of my head. Good for you, saving Matilda from the oncoming truck!!!! I have pulled a few from the jaws of my "dawgs" at times too, but a truck is scary!!!!! :D

She is so little,
I wonder if she is a baby box turtle?
Congratulations on your new found adoptie.

I asked Justin and he said he doesn't think it is a box turtle. But he doesn't know what it is. Does it have a hinge on the bottom? If so it probably is a box turtle.

*Edit- he came back and said it does look like an Ornate Box Turtle.

By the look of the picture its eyes are a yellowish color- if so then yes it's a girl. Males have red eyes.

Too cute! Turtles are adorable! I'm glad you saved this one.

I'd say it's certainly a baby.

The way to sex turtles is to turn it over and look at its bottom shell. Females have a flat bottom shell, and males have a bottom shell the curves upwards - concave. This is so they can mate with the female, without sliding off.

She looks just like the 6 box turtles I've had in the past. What a cutie!

THANKS for saving her!!!

Welllllllll....

Have "we" made a "flavor" determination yet?
Maybe we need more *pix*! :p

And How's Tilly blending in with the rest of the Zoo?

General concensus says, Matilda's a ornate box turtle!

Well, since the cats aren't allowed outside, the biggest problem is the dog. Sara doesn't hurt Matilda, just wants to carry the poor turtle around! However, it's kinda gross to see feet wiggling/peeking out from beneath those boxer jaws! lol (not to mention, I bet it's stressing on 'Tilda.) Sooo... for awhile, Matilda is living on our porch in an old aquarium. Don't worry, she is given plenty of supervised, non-dog outtings! She's so tiny that we have to watch closely... we lose her in the grass. (Another handy feature of the aquarium: no accidental run-ins with the lawn mower! )

More pics? Sure! :D

The tank set-up. (Any suggestions/modifications are GREATLY appreciated! We've never had a "tank" turtle before.)

I'm not sure yet. :( It really depends on if the dog will leave her alone once the "new" wears off.

If I don't keep her, I'll give her to my cousin who has a handful of other turtles in her (turtle escape-proof) backyard!

Oh my gosh! How cute! It is an ornate box turtle. About 4 years ago, I bought one for Jaden's daycare. He no longer goes to that daycare, I wonder how that turtle is doing. I can't remember it's name for the life of me, but it was something really dumb because the preschoolers named it. lol.

I never realized turtles could have so much personality! lol

Furthermore, I never realized what a BIG appetite they have! :D Today, we've devoured LOTS of lettuce, a cucumber slice, about 3/4 of a grape, and a chunk and a half of banana! Then we played in the sprinkler, investigated (and almost ate) a bug, sunbathed on a rock, and tried to climb the porch steps.

When I put her back in the tank, she took a long drink from her water dish, then went immediately to bed. :D I'm smitten!
