I got another message while at work from Kevin the ACO. He's already spoken with Martha from the law enforcement department of the MSPCA, and she's going to Jennifer's and reading her the 'riot act'! ;) The superintendent of the projects where Jennifer lives told Kevin he doesn't think the cat even belongs to this girl! He said an elderly woman passed away 3 months ago, and the cat was hers! I'm guessing Jennifer maybe fed Marigold once or twice, and now claims to own her! Martha is making it very clear to her that Marigold is NOT being uprooted from the foster home until the kittens are weaned, and if Jennifer is to get her back she'd better be ready to cough up some $$$ for spay etc. :D She's going to try also to get Jennifer to just back off and sign the cat over as well. Marigold's beige baby's leg is much better today, and it's going to be fine by the looks of it!:)

The good news is Jennifer was confronted by ACO Kevin while she was outside feeding six more cats! The truth came out that there were seven cats thrown out after the elderly woman passed away. Jennifer I guess was concerned that Marigold was going to be euthanised, and has been assured that is not, and will not be the case. So Marigold and her six-pack will be all going to proper homes, and I'll be dealing with six more abandoned cats soon.

I was going to say that it appears that Jennifer is on our side in this. She was trying to insure Marigold's safety. Good for her. I'm sure she is relieved to know that she is in a safe place with her babies.

Great news! I am very happy to hear that. So, it sounds like Jennifer wasn't as bad as we thought. At least she was looking out for the wellbeing of the cats.

I'm glad it's over regarding that little (well large) family! I'm going to try to get by the apartment that Jennifer lives in and give her the options of low cost spay/neuter IF she takes the remaining cats in where they'll be safe. The other option is for the cats to go to the shelter and get homes which is the best alternative seeing they were probably inddor cats to begin with. At least Jennifer's well meaning! ;)

It's good to know that Jennifer's intentions were good ones for these cats. I hope she consider's adopting a few of them as her own. I feel so sorry for you Jan having to deal with this now especially while being so concerned for your woodpile gang.
At least there is some good news in all of this, that Marigold's little beige baby's legs are going to okay.

Wow, I was thinking the very worst things about Jennifer! Wouldn't it be great if she would want to take on some of thr kitties now?? You may have gained a new foster at least! I am so glad to hear that she was concerned for their well -being. Makes me feel bad for thinking the worst:rolleyes:

In this city there's plenty of idiots, and it's easy to think the worst about some situations (like the neglected kittens from the flea infested house). I'm glad it's been clarified, and that the remaining six cats are at least being nourished until we can figure out the next step. I have Jennifer's phone number, and Kevin gave me her address, but it's a time and space issue now. Geee I wonder why???   I can't figure out why the shelter's overflowing and no room for any newcomers for a week or so. Hmmm...I think I have some clones running around trapping cats and packing that place. :D BAD BAD CLONES! To the couch...bring on the bon-bons!;)

In Massachusettes, it's illegal to abandon pets. So, when this person died, whoever allowed her pets out, or to continue to roam free, should be charged with abandonment. Because it's a subsidized housing property, it may be owned by the city, ergo, the city should be fined $500.00 (not sure, but I believe that is the fine) times 7 cats.
Will the ACO follow up on this. Highly doubt it. Will MSPCA? They have bigger cases to deal with. No one is going to see the rightful person punished for letting these poor cats go. The owner likely had no caring family... who knows. This must happen so much with the elderly who have no one who cares about their pets...

I highly doubt they'll fine the city for the cats abandonment. Too bad they couldn't fine the family members who threw them out like trash.
When my Dad passed away, the one promise I made to him was to make sure his cat was taken care of. Tigger lived 3 years longer than Dad very happily in my best friends condo, where he was loved dearly by her and her two daughters.
I think it's important that people who own pets make provisions for their animals, should their cats outlive them. I have!!
Great job Jan!!
