Mine is pronounced two different ways. My family pronounces it Louda but most of my friend pronounce it Lora. I really don't have a prefrence. One of the main reasons my parents named me Laura is because they wanted me to have a name that could be easily pronounced in both english and spanish.

Am-Burr.

My younger cousin calls me "Am-Ba" Ahh i don't know how to spell it, i guess i would have to say it in order for you to know what i was talking about. :p

Karen
08-11-2004, 10:28 PM
I pronounce Karen - the a like in apple, or carry - Kar'n

Ka-ren

others pronounce it more like Kah-ren
or Kare-in

and that's okay, too! I'll answer to them all!

My illustration professor once wrote
Boston   Bosten   Bostin
on the chalkboard, pointed to me and said - "I bet you're the only one in this room who would pronounce those differently." Had nothing to do with anything, and he didn't test his theory, but it was wierd!

So Devons, both of you, I would pronounce it Dev-unn -(emphasis on the first syllabl, of course) is that as offensive is Dev-on? If you pronouce it Devin, why not spell it that way? ;)

Aren't you all glad I'm not your English teacher? :p

Deb-e = Debbie pretty simple. The thing that I hate is when people insist on calling me Debra, even though they have no idea if that's my real name or not. I've known people that the only name I've ever told them is Debbie, and they insist on Debra - and not only Debra, but Deb-or-a = Deborah - gah! I hate it! Just because Debbie is a common nickname for Debra or Deborah, that doesn't mean that that is my name. Terry's (my signficant other) real name is actually Terry - not Terrance and my boss's real name is Randy - not Randall, so why do people assume that my real name is Debra - or worse Deborah?

Ok, after all that ranting, yes, my real name is Debra, but I've always been known as Debbie and it's just a pet peeve of mine - thus the rant. :p :D

Joe-hawn-ah. Johanna. Not simple. Really not simple. Mispronounced ALL the time. Jo-ANNA, Jo-hanna, Jill Hanna (very often, which surprises me). About 10% call me Joh....

I can always tell if someone is a friend of mine by the way they pronounce my name (over the phone....in person, I recognize my friends, usually).

Samantha Puppy

Jaime = Jay-mee

I always know when I'm getting a crap phone call when someone asks for Mr. Jaime, Jaime pronouced Hy-may (as in Spanish), or James.

Joe-hawn-ah??? Really? :o I always thought it was pronounced *Joe-hanna*. I know a girl named Johanna at school, and that's how she pronounces it, so I assumed your's would be the same way. From now on, I'll have to call you *Joe-hawn-ah*. ;) Does the pronounciation have to do with what part of the country you're from? Everyone here pronounces it as *Joe-hanna*.

PCB- you are a nut. You pronounce my name right. I am differentiating between Jo-han(like man)-ah, and Jo-hawn(like Dawn)-ah. The only people that routinely pronounce my name correctly are NON-American born people.

Ah, now I get it. From your post, I thought I pronounce it incorrectly. I'm not a *non-American* born person though. :p That is funny. You'd think people born in other countries would be the ones to pronounce it incorrectly.

My name is Shanna.

It's pronounced Shan-nuh. It rhymes with banana. It sounds just exactly like it's spelled. One would think it would be a no-brainer.

It is not Shawn-nuh. Or Sheen-nuh. Or Shane-nuh. Or Shan-nun. Or Shawn-nun.

I often wonder if they still teach phoenics in school.

I instantly hang up on people who ask for Shawna, Sheena, Shana, Shannon, Shawnon or Sharon on the phone. It's an instant tip-off to a cold sales call.

My real name is Katharina, prounounced Kat-uh-ree-nuh.. but everyone call me Katie, Kay-tee

My name is Elizabeth. Pronounced Ah-Liz-Ah-Beth, Uh-Liz-A-Beth or Eee-Liz-A-Beth. Any way you like it! I say it "Uh-Liz-A-Beth" most of the time. Or you can just call me Liz. ;)

My mom has kind of a cool name - her name is Zlata (she was born in Slovenia). Pronounced kinda like "Szlot-ta," two syllables. That always messes people up. We've heard:
Zah-lah-tah
Zel-ah-tah
Sall-ah-tah
Zelda (?? don't know where people get that one, but she gets called it often!!)
Lah-tah

But, it's understandable, so we don't mind. That's why she named me something easy, something I could make a nickname out of if I didn't like it. Mom goes by Z or Z.Z. a lot for a nickname.

I have to tell my husband that I was right. Every time I say your name he corrects me and says it's Jo-Anna. I'm glad you replied to this post. I love being right!!!!
