Hi my male cat's name is Lucky and he moved in just around Christmas of 2003. Just a month later he was neutered but not before he had gotten my young female pregnant. Well now they are the proud parents of three little kittens. I have found homes for two of them but I have decided to keep one due to the closeness to his dad. Is this normal for a male cat to be so close to his kittens. I always thought it was the female who was the parent but my Lucky is a very good dad. He cleaned his kittens and loved to snuggle with them and sleep. He became real close to one so we decided to keep him. Lucky's son's name is Stevie and they closer than Stevie and his mom. Is this normal behavior for a male to be such a care giver or could it just be Lucky's nature.

Welcome to Pet Talk, cpennell_31!

I only have experience of one cat family, but our feral tom was a great dad! We were surprised as well. I had always assumed that dad wouldn't play much of a role, but ours looked after mum all the way through her pregnancy, looked after the kittens when they were very young while mum fed, then she would look after them while he fed. He was also great with the kittens later on, after they were weaned. It was wonderful to see.

I only have one battered old picture of him, but you've got me thinking about him again. I think I give him his own thread soon! :D
