View Full Version : A warning to all pet lovers

Hello everyone!
Had a terrible day yesterday. My cat Clyde was at the vets all day.
He was climbing on a small bookshelf that we have, and managed to pull it off the wall (it is anchored to the wall with one of those child safety 'hooks' that is supposed to keep it upright). The bookshelf landed on his leg, which broke. I heard this terrible cry and I found him. Poor little one, I'm not sure who was more upset, me or him.
He went to the emergency vet, who patched him up. He now has a cast, which of course he hates. It will stay on for 6 weeks.
He was so luck that the shelf didn't land on his back or head. I wanted to warn other pet lovers to make sure that if they are using those book shelf safety devices (not sure what they are called) to try testing them. I would really hate to hear of this happening to anyone else.

Aww poor Clyde. What a terrible, unfortunate accident.
I hope his little cast doesn't cause him to much stress.
Give him sweet hugs and kisses for me and hope he feels better soon.

Thanks for the warning. We have ours bolted to the wall with L-brackets into studs. Plus I keep so many books on them they can't climb onto them...but what a good warning. How awful that must have been. I am so glad your kitty is going to be ok.

Wow! I never even thought about that! I'll be hooking mine to the wall immediately!

Sorry to hear about poor baby Clyde's foot. I hope he's feeling better soon!

This is one of my nightmares!!! I hate it when my cats climb onto the shelfs because I'm afraid of this!!

Poor Clyde!!! I hope he's feeling better soon! I don't even want to think what would have happened if the shelf has landed on his back or head! Get well soon, Clyde!

What a terrible thing to have happen, but I am so glad that it wasn't a worse accident for Clyde! Hopefully the six weeks will pass quickly and without any problems.

Hugs to both of you.
