I just read on the net that the following brands of dog/cat food gets tested on animals!
IAMS
Eukanuba
Alpo
Arthur's
Bakers Complete, Bonio
Bonus
Bounce
Brekkies
Cesar
Chappie
Choice
Choosy
Chunky
Felix
Friskies/Winalo
Go-Cat
Go-Dog
Gourmet
Hills Science Diet
Katkins
Kitekat
Mighty Dog
Omega Complete
Pal
Pedigree
Ralston
Purina
Sheba
Spillers
Whiskas

Yup. I heard that too. Thankfully I don't use any of those. My vet was trying to push Iams and Science Diet on me and I told him that I don't like the fact that they test on animals. He tried to tell me that all the animals get adopted after the testing, etc. Blah, he was just trying really hard to push the food on me because those are the brands they sell at the office.

I am so trying to convince my mom to buy other brands. :( Our vet feeds his dog Eukanuba so my mom thinks it must be good. Riiiiight. *sigh* There's one brand of food they make in Quebec which seems okay but it's a bit expensive. :(
Feeding Mickey this stuff really bothers me. :(

I might be dense, but isn't it wise to test the food on dogs
- to see if they will it eat - Before selling it?

Yeah, pretty bad isn't it? And also, when you see the in gredient "meat and bone meal" that it means they are using euthanized retired race horses and pets in the food? A lot of foods have it it them, that's why I would never purchase a commercial dog food, because they will slowly kill your dog. It's a good idea to get a dog food free of corn, wheat, soy, sugar, colorings, and preservatives. All commercial dog foods contain preservatives such as ethyoxoquin(active ingredient in some paint thinner), Propelene Glycol(a close cousin to antifreeze) or BHA or BHT which is banned to use in human foods. All these cause liver disease, kidney disease, or diabetes. If you are concerned about your dog's health, search the internet for all-natural dog foods or check out the Canidae website, which is what I feed my dog.

I'm glad this thread was dug up -- it may be a way to get my mom to stop buying Purina. I've been trying to get her to stop buying that stuff for a while now.

I don't believe most of it. I'm sure some of them do, but those words are all right from PETA's mouth. I don't believe much of what PETA says. *shrugs* really, if your pet is doing well on it and/or you don't want to go to natural foods, keep them on it.

Um, by "animal testing" I believe it means they feed it to animals to see whether or not they like it. Besides, PETA is the last one to point fingers at anyone, given their reputation for blowing things WAAAY out of proportion.

I agree with Donna.Animal testing I to think means the feed it to kitties and doggies to see if they like it or not.IMO Peta is more a cult then animal rights group.

Ahh... well even if they used the testing in a bad way theres nothing I could say. Rusty eats Mighty Dogs its the only dog food he'll even eat if during dinner we give him nothing better (people food). :o

No, they're not. This is common knowledge. One of the websites later posted about Iams is PETA, but not the orginal list of KNOWN companies to test cruelly on animals.
