My cat has a girlfriend!

My 2 year old male cat Max was neutered when he was 5 months old. Shortly before he had this surgery he chose a toy bear, which we loving refer to as his 'girlfriend', and began to knead while holding some part of it (ear, leg, arm) in his mouth and purring loudly. After his surgery we hid the bear and, despite our efforts to suppress this activity, he found another toy and even a blue blanket I had knitted! He acts very 'amourous' and gets an erection when he does this. He arches his back, but there does not appear to be any direction contact or stimulation other than holding the toy in his mouth and kneading it. Although he has begun to do this often (atleast 5-10 times a day), I do not mind the behaviour as he is a nervous, anxious cat and seems to be happiest when he is with his 'girlfriends'. I can not seem to find any information about this anywhere and would like to know if this happens with many other male cats.

Welcome to Pet Talk jen_sa. Your cat is quite normal, or as normal as my goofy Maine Coon Mishi. Mishi "makes love" to my teddy bear, Muffy - we call it "muffing" at my house. :rolleyes: It's quite harmless and hilarious. I figure if it makes him happy, let him do it. Quite often when I see him having his way with Muffy, I just roll my eyes and laugh and ask him if I should leave them alone. He's just a normal guy kitty. :rolleyes: :D

Tubby used to have his big fuzzy slipper that he did the same thing with. I, too, just rolled my eyes and let him have his way with the slipper. :rolleyes: ;) :D

I think your kitty is quite normal as there are quite a few here who do the same thing. Rizzo (?) and his favorite stuffed seal Sauxus (sp?) are two that come immediately to mind. ;) :D

ha ha ha! The picture of Mishi with Muffy looks EXACTLY like my Maxwell when he is with his bear!!!! Even holding it in his mouth!!! It's totally hilarious and even funnier that my baby is not alone in this bizarro activity!!!!! thanks very much for your supportive reply!

Ron's girlfriend is a fuzzy blanket. Unfortunatly, he normally has his way with her in the middle of the night when my leg is under it. I'm guilty of cat abuse...I've kicked him off my leg many times in my sleep. ;)
