peeing at night

I have a 1 1/2 year old weimaraner that has to be let out at least 1 time at night and if we don't let him out he will pee all over the kitchen floor. My husband is furious!!!! Does anyone think that there is something wrong with him? HELP!!!

You should crate train him. It almost always solves problems of pottying when he's alone, since dogs do not want to pee in their den. My dog loves his crate and always sleeps in it. Here's a site with a bunch of links about crate training and crating... good luck with your weim!

Try not letting the dog drink anything at least 3 hours before bedtime... and yes on the crate training,,, Crates are a safe haven for them and like it was mentioned before,, they dont genaraly pee in thier sleeping areas.... We have our Dobie crate trained and even have it partially covered at night,, kinda like a birdscage,, lol lol,,, but I understand they like that too... kinda like a cave...... might help with the peeing.....

Crate training should help. It uses the dog's natural instincts to not soil in their "den".

I'd also take him to the vet to have him cleared of any medical problems that may be causing him to not be able to hold it in.

Hi! Does your buddy drink a lot of water before bedtime? What you could try is lifting his water bowl about 2 hours before you
go to bed and make sure you let your buddy out to releive himself. If it persists you may want to take your buddy to a vet
and make sure he is not having kidney problems. Does he drink
large quanties of water? Does he have accidents all the time?
My lab/mix (3 years old) has kidney problems. I have to make
sure he does not consume large amounts of water before bedtime
and I let him out as late as possible. Over time he has become
real good at holding it all night. Sometimes there will still be an
accident, but it is usually my fault for not letting him out before
bedtime. Hope this helps!

I was just wondering if this was a new problem, or if it's been going on since you got the dog.

The reason I'm asking is that Jake started waking us up to potty in the middle of the night a few months ago. We were mildly annoyed, but didn't think anything of it. We thought he was just getting older.

The vet said that was probably the first sign that he was very, very sick. She said the outcome wouldn't have been any different (he would have still passed away even if we'd brought him in earlier) but that you should never blow off more frequent urination.

I'm not trying to scare you or anything, but if this is a new thing rather than just a housetraining thing, you should get some blood work done.

Hi! We found Sammy when he was 3 months old on a 90 degree
day tied out in the sun abandoned by the Allegheny River in PA.
Someone had beaten him very badly, the whites of both his
eyes where blood red. I had never seen anything like it.
He was severly dehydrated. I took Sam home with me and got
lot's of fluids into him and I took him to my vets the next day.
He had bad runs for a few days and my vet did all he could do
for Sam for the trauma. Sam is now 3 years old and he is my
best buddy! He is very skitish of anything you hold in your hands.
(can't blame him) He still has problems holding his urine, I let him
have a lot of water and then sometimes I pick it up at night.
He does have kidney damage from the beating he had suffered.
I cannot believe how any person could do that to a dog, let
alone a baby pup! I never found out who had attacked Sam,
But I know God knows and he/she will be punished someday!

Oh bless you for keeping the poor lil guy and loving him like you do,,,, I just cant imagine why some ppl do these horrid things.... its just beyond my comprehension... in fact,, it brings me to tears,, i just dont what to do with the anger and rage that boils up when I read stuff like that.....

I do think his inability to hold the urine has some small part in what happened to him,, aside from the obvious damage that was done to his kidneys.... Just keep loving him and show him support,, you know,, I dont need to tell you that now do I??
