I have a problem seeing the videos in wmv mode.

I had to have my computer reformatted last month and when I got it back, I was able to see all the videos.

Now for some reason I can't and it is soooooo frustrating for me as I am not that computer smarts and don't know how to fix it.

I was able to see Shais_mom video in avi mode.

I have Windows Media Player and when I try to view a video in wmv mode, I can hear the video but cannot see it. I get the visualization album instead and after it goes through the buffering stage and the the downloading codec stage, I get. "Error downloading codec."

Someone told me to delete Windows Media Player and upload Real Player. What do you think?

I had e-mailed a certain person just over a week ago, asking for help and I haven't heard anything from them.

If anyone can help me fix this problem I would be ever grateful as I really miss out on seeing these video's.:(

P.S. Remember now, I said I wasn't too computer smarts, so be gentle with me and use layman's terms. LOL

Do you have Windows Media Player 9? It's the latest version. If you don't have that version maybe downloading and installing it would take care of it. If you have 9 already then maybe you could just reinstall it.

I'm not too good on the computer either. Thank goodness my husband is. I'll tell him about your problem and see if he can help.

What you are describing is odd, because the WMV format should be automatically enabled on the media player.

Unloading media player and installing real player is probably not the first thing I would attempt. Besides both of the players cna be installed on the same computer at the same time. So, if you wanted to try loading real player you would not have to unload media player.

I like Jazzcat's idea of trying to update media player.

Is the operating system Windows XP? If it is, I would first try windows update and see if there is an update for media player. Hopefully, there is just something small out of whack and just updating it will put it back to the way that it is supposed to be working.

Go ahead and PM me if you need help getting to the windows update site. I can walk you through getting there and checking to see if there is an update for media player.

OK, I have to go back to work now.:( I will check in later.

Thank you all so much for your replies.

So it looks like the best bet is to reinstall the Media Player..

Okay Bryan, I will have to get back to you on the pm later as I have to get ready to go to a funeral:(

Thanks for your help in advance.:)

Although I can't honestly remember what I did to correct my same problem. I know that I was told to download this item. It converts your video into a Windows version. If you need help using it, I "think" I can walk you through it!
