New Pet? Help

Since my kitty had to be put up for adoption my parents said I can get another pet... but I don't know what kind of animal I should get. I love any animal so if u could please help me that would be excellent. Thanks a bunch :D :confused:

i dont think it is any of our buisness why her cat was put up for adoption.. I think you should get a hamster. they are small and easy to care for.. plus they arnt expensive either ;)

Well if she is asking for our opinions then I think it is, what if they got rid of the kitty because they just didn't want to take care of it anymore. If that's the case then I think getting another pet would be a bad idea.

As Laura said, she asked for our advice so we do need to know a bit more of the story. I will not recommend an animal if she is unable to care for it. They could have given up the cat due to allergies, responsibility, behavior, etc etc etc. There are so many reasons, and each one is important to know in order to recommend another pet to that home.

Hmmm... well bunnies make great pets! :D I've got 6, and had rabbits for 10 years.

I would not recomend a rabbit for her. Only because she gave up her cat (I think, I need to know more) Bunnies are harder to care for then dog's, cats, hamsters or rats. Yes, I have had all these animals so I can say that bunnies are harder to care for. I have 3 dog's, 4 cats and 2 bunnies the 3 dogs and 4 cats are MUCH easier to care for then bunnies. So, if she can't care for a cat (again, I'm not sure why she gave it up or anything) then I don't think she can care and comit to a rabbit.

I agree with the majority here, we can hardly go recommending another pet, not knowing why the kitty had been given up, that is kinda irresponsible IMO, and besides she asked our opinions.

One should never get another pet having given one up unless there is a very genuine good reason.

However if there were some good reasons, perhaps mice would be the easiest pet I can think of to take care of ,time wise, money-wise etc.

It says that the kitty was put up for adoption and has found another furrever home. I don't believe it was his/her choice to give up the cat. Looks like the parents made the decision.

i think these pets are out of the question...

ferrets...dogs...cats....and bunnies...

no ferrets... you won't be able to aford it for one. starting up costs,cage food, toys and all else is around $200 or more.
and before you get one you need $500 in the bank. and they have to be out 4 hours minimum daily.

no dogs , well obviously there harder than cats and you couldn't take care of her properly.

no cats...well you know...

bunnies are alot of work but are easier than ferrets. i've had one before... R.I.P YO YO...

maybe you should get a hamster or guiene pig.(sp?)
hamsters are small and easy to care for and put out as much love as you give them. guiene pigs seem to be not to hard. hey maybe a hedgehog. i never had a piggy, so i'm not positive. but thats my opinion!

But anyways no guinea pigs! They are just about as hard as rabbits since they need their cages cleaned every 3 days and want to be held (even though some may be jumpy) but they are just as hard to take care of as I know since I have one and I had a rabbit too so...maybe you should just get a goldfish

In this case, I don't think ANY animals should be brought into the home. Pets aren't just recycable, where you throw out an old one and get a new one.


Maybe you should wait until you're on your own and able to care for and make decisions for the animals yourself.

Maybe someone was allergic in the home. Maybe the cat started spraying and couldn't get it to stop. It's not necessarily because of neglect of anything that could be helped. Let's give these people a chance to explain!

I don't think anyone has jumped to conclusions here. In the thread where this person (or the parents) got rid of the cat, it was because he was "pooping and puking everywhere". I think every animal pretty much does that so I agree with Kay that the wisest thing to do would be wait before adding another pet. I'm not being mean, just being honest.

If it was your parents that didn't want the cat any more, I would advise not getting a pet at all. If your parents decide they don't want the next furry friend you get, it could end up at the adoption center too!

But if you do get a pet, guinea pigs are really good. I have a short haired Teddy Bear guinea pig and he is really sweet. I clean his cage every few days. But they do need attention and my baby loves to be taken outside (you just have to watch them!).

Hamsters would also be good. They are nocturnal, so they are up at night mostly. I had a hamster a few years ago and they make good pets. Just don't pick them up when they are sleeping without letting them know first, like petting them a little bit first.

I dont aggree with rabbits being harder than dogs or cats...I have a holland lop and its FAR easier than my dogs. And i have had lots of cats also. I take care of Sassy by myself and I am not having any troubles. She was litter trained in 3 days! I reccomend a rabbit to you! If you have lots of room for it, you will be in luck. And I'm not trying to force you to buy one-- and you should just write a list of animals you would like to own and do a little research on them to find the best pet for you.
