My Mama use to say that is enough fur to make some kitten britches! We have plenty that would make a lot of kitten britches for the kitties out there that have outgrown theirs. Anyone know how to knit?

Whoever posted about this tool was absolutely 100% right about it. This thing works like a CHARM! Got it today and as you can see, we used it, it works UNBELIEVABLLY well! Princess LOVED it.

Anyone thinking this looks like your lost cat in SE Louisiana that is a MALE, it could be your cat. Please pm me asap!Note added later, Princess IS a girl!

:D ah! So Princess is a Prince???
YES, that tool is absolutely amazing. When I first bought it, I did not see how it could possibly do much of anything but now you have the proof in a huge pile!!
I use it on all three cats - short haired Eliot & Emily, too...problem is they hate it:rolleyes: I needed to get started when they were younger I guess. I also need a bath when I am finished:eek:
Doesn't it seem like the kitty should look bald when you are finished? But they just look great! Somehow it just gets that dead hair out.
Maybe you can stuff a pillow Laura??

Don't know if "it" is male or female... TO MUCH FUR and it don't trust me enough messing around "down" there yet.. So it could be either.... that is why I posted that in red... hoping somebody will see it and I didn't want to scare them away because it I call "her, a "she". Could be a "HE"... Yes, GREAT TOOL! Amazing! I took it to Lucky's Mawmaw and we use it on him and he loved it.. Bet it felt like a back scratch to him..

I just bought one too, at the suggestion of PT!!! I literally came home 15 minutes ago with it:) I'm going to wait until tonight when Mike is here and have him do the holding while I do the brushing. They are not to fond of being brushed and would rather play with it than let it touch them. Hee - that is a LOT of hair.

Sorry, dont know how to knit, but I could use one of those shedding blades! I had one for Nicki and they work unbelievably well.

Now all you need is Sleeping Beauty to come along and spin the fur into yarn for you (please tell her to watch out about pricking her finger, or she might go into an endless sleep only her true love Prince can awken her from!) :D

Goodness Gracious!!! That poor kitty was in need of some serious brushing! I bet he/she feels so good now. That is a lot of fur!
You need to get a loom and start weaving!http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/wink.gif http://petoftheday.com/talk/images/our_smilies/biggrin.gif

The Es were brushed with their cutting blade today too! I'm sure Shirley and all the other squirrels in the neighborhood are grateful for the nest lining....:D

IT'S A GIRL! I gave her another "treatment" with that blade awhile ago and I worked on her back end the most, working my way up to checking her out and SHE is definality a SHE ... I have a question for all you experiences Mommies here though, she looks mighty "open" there, her "twat" looks more like a "0" than a slit, it is definately open. That drip when I brush her that I thought was drool, could be urine.. I have never experienced this so I need you opinions and advice now.. Is that normal? (I don't think so)

She was in hiding most of the day and would not come out, so I got the "tool" and showed it to her and she tried to come out and couldn't... She had her poor self, wedged between the freezer and the wall. I had to grab her by the scruff of her neck and pull her up to get her out...Then we went to work on finding out her gender...

Oh, she STILL has not eaten yet... This is the 4th day. I bought science diet can and another brand and she will not eat. What can I offer to entice her to eat? If I have to force feed her, how do you do that and what do you feed them? She is just so upset loosing her Mommie!! I checked for dehydration and she is fine right now with that.. How many days can they go and not eat?

Number one...I have no idea why she would have an "O". I have to tell you that I haven't looked that close at mine but I do think they all have a slit. That sounds kind of wierd but I don't know if it means anything is wrong or not.
As for the food she needs to eat soon. Four days is a long time and she may just need some help getting started. I would try some of the Fancy Feast brands, especially the ones that are sliced because they are full of gravy. She may lap that up as a beginning. If not I would get baby food, I think everyone talks about veal, and feed it to her with a syringe if she won't eat it on her own. You may have to force her but she is going to get sick soon if she doesn't eat. There are a lot more experienced people when it comes to this so I hope they can advise you better than me. Do you know for a fact that she is drinking? Is she using the litter box at all?
She is probably grieving and may be one of those very picky babies that wants only the food that she is used to. Since that is unknown you may not have a choice but to force her. I know you don't want to and I hope you don't have to. I wonder if her teeth are ok? She may have problems and can't eat the dry. It's so hard to know.
I hope and pray that someone is looking for her!! How could anyone have thrown that baby away??

I don't think she was thrown away... I thing she "escaped" or got out somehow... I will get that baby food tomorrow and force feed her if I have to then.... Thanks..

Shedding blades are amazing, I use mine on Tibby all the time and I'm always amazed at how much fur comes off.

Wow, that's a lot of hair. I bet she feels and looks a lot better - although she was beautiful to begin with.

I hope she starts eating soon. I don't have any suggestions but hopefully the ones already offered will help. As for her female question - I don't have a clue on that either. Does the shelter have a vet? Maybe the vet could check her out when you return.

Yea, I believe they do have a vet that comes in once a week or so.. If she is not eating on her own by Tuesday, I reckon I will take her to a vet on my own....but I would ask the shelter first...

Just curious Corinna - but what sort of things would you knit from cat hair - do you soin it into a regular yarn and then just knit like with any other yarn? cool! (I am totally craft challenged)

BIG SIGH OF RELIEF!! Princess has eaten on her own!! Her bowl was finall empty this morning!! PHEW! What a relief! She ate the Science diet dry over the can food, now I got can food to do something with..

Corinna, are you serious? I think it would be so cool to have something made of her fur, just as a keepsake as my very first foster, even the smallest thing. I may just send it to you if you are serious!! Do you knit too? I do not, never could get the hang of it.. I do a lot of things that will "get by" but do nothing really well except cook! Never could get the hang of knitting for some reason...

How does that tool work? I've never seen something like that!

Princess is such a beautiful girl!!! Great markings! Good that she was eating today! How long is she with you now?

You use it like a comb with the circle part being the comb.. I guess the best way to describe it is that it works like a rake and I tell you, even using it on a kitty that don't appear to be shedding with surprise the dickens out of you. I got it to use on Chester, my big short haired tabby because my daughter complaines about how bad he sheds at her house but decided to see how it worked on long haired cats.. It blew my mind!!!

I don't know how long she is with me. I am hoping that when we open Tuesday, her owner will be there looking for her but if not, I want to see if they can find a permant foster home for her since I have to go back to work on the 21st and I don't want her getting to attached to me, then me have to take her back to the shelter and plop her in another cage. She has been tramatized enough. I brought her home Friday "for the week end" but I do not want her back in that shelter after seeing her in a "home enviroment" and how she bloomed here.... and eating again.

Poor baby!! Hopefully her owner is looking for her at the shelter!! And if not, I hope this precious girl will find a good permanent home very soon!

That sounds like an interesting tool indeed! Luna is shedding a lot and so far, I used a baby brush which worked very well. But it seems as if there's always lose fur remaining in her coat! She enjoys being brushed very well btw! :)

I'm so glad she started eating again. Sometimes baby food works - the beef, chicken, veal or lamb kind or something extra stinky like tuna or sardines. I gave Mishi some "treats" this morning (actually Royal Canin Maine Coon - it has HUGE chunks) and he ate it. I think he's slowly getting better (fingers/paws crossed).
