We live in a horrible world: 6 Puppies Apparently Killed by Fireworks

TULSA, Okla. (AP) - Six puppies were killed, apparently by fireworks placed in their mouths, shortly after teenage boys were seen carrying Roman candles in a north Tulsa neighborhood.

Animal control officers said they were following leads Tuesday but had no suspects in Sunday night's attacks, during which one person told police they heard a puppy yelp.

An older dog, a 4 1/2-month-old black Labrador mix, suffered burns on her muzzle and hindquarters from apparently being used as a moving target for fireworks.

The Tulsa Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was caring for the injured dog and for the puppies' mother, a 1 1/2-year-old black-and-tan heeler mix that was not harmed.

The injured dog had begun to eat and was expected to survive, said Laurie Mayes, executive director of the Tulsa SPCA.

The SPCA believes the puppies died from fireworks that exploded in their mouths.

A woman, Tonya Curry, 27, found all the dogs Monday among the remains of fireworks inside a vacant house and took the two survivors to the SPCA. When an animal control officer arrived later, the dead puppies were gone.

``Somebody probably went to clean up their mess so they wouldn't get in trouble,'' Officer Charity Curtis said.

The SPCA has raised about $1,000 and other organizations were undertaking similar efforts to reward people who provide information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible, officials said.

There are no words to describe what I felt reading this. I am disgusted :mad: :mad: and so sad for those puppies. :( :( :( I only hope that somewhere down the road these creeps get caught. I would lock them up and throw away the key! :mad:

I agree that is so horrible! There's a special place in Hell for "people" like this. However, shouldn't these be put in the dog house? I come here for happy things and don't like to see things like this in here. Maybe it's just me.........

we'll never know the ending of... Someone saw them. They had Roman Candles. There were 6 teens; teens brag. They get caught. Problem is. It'll never get media attention again. We'll never get an opportunity to express outrage at slaps on the wrist. That angers me I think as much as what they did. Yes. I believe it is equally horrific.

Tears of anger, disgust, and sadness actually came to my eyes while reading this. This makes me sooooo mad! Those poor puppies... This is hard to say as I am feeling such anger towards the criminals, but we must pray for them. We must pray that they NEVER do this again and that they learn that this is wrong wrong WRONG. They must be really sick to do something like this, and maybe if we pray, it won't happen again.

We had something similar around here a few days ago. They said on the news that two teenaged boys were taken into custody after abusing a litter of 5 kittens and one young dog with fireworks. They didn't tell any of the details, thank goodness, but it must have been pretty bad to have made the 6 o'clock news.

People disgust me...

Some teens a few years ago lit a wild lizard on fire, as a result the lizard was killed *obviously* and it started a huge fire that almost burned this town to the ground! It cost SO much money and the parents of the kids had to pay...all of the cost of fighting the fire.

The kids werent legally punished though. I bet the parents were REALLY POed...

The kids never get punished really for stuff like this. Its the parents that have to pay all the fines and stuff. I think the kids should have to do SOMETHING...

Grrrr and how in the hell did these kids get fireworks anyway. Thought you had to be over 18 to get them :confused:

I heard this on our local news last night and was shocked! They said the dog with the burns around the mussel may have been trying to protect the babies. It just makes me sick. I'd like to put a lit firecracker up the behind of the ones who did this!:(

The words I want to use in my opinion of this disgusting event cannot be used because this is a family site.

First of all, why is it ALWAYS BOYS/MEN that abuse animal. Yes, that's right, I said BOYS/MEN!!! Very rarely do you read stories about girls or women abusing animals. It makes me sick!!!

There was an incident in CT about 3 years ago where a group of BOYS put a firecracker into a kitten's rectum and lit it. It was by the grace of God that that kitten survived. It took her over a year to trust anyone at the shelter. She finally got adopted and has a wonderful home.

I think these @#%$*& poor excuses of human beings should get a swift kick in the a$$ and a stiff jail sentence.

I cried when I heard of this. It sickens me that so many kids, or people in general, these days have no concept of the value of a life. No conscience, no sense of decency or compassion. I pray the kids that did this are caught .... however I doubt they will dealt with to the extent they need. As Moosman said , I can't say what I would really like to say due to the family nature of this board.
