I am a little worried about my Ashes, he appears to be unwell, yesterday he was fine in the morning , but by evening he was off his food, his fav food red meat, and he chose to stay outside on the verandah, but I brought him in beside the heater, he always sits close to it, but he was feeling the cold obviously as he was almost under it, its an oil filled heater.
He would stand up briefly for a few mins, then sit down again, I had decided if no improvement he was off to the white coats today, however this morning he was much perker, he ate his food happily, purred and looked much more bright eyed, he is not 100 per cent yet though.
I noticed a half eaten bird yesterday and wondered if he caught it and ate it, most of it was gone, and that has made him unwell, but he often gets unwell like for a day or two then comes right, I have mentioned it to the vet, but she does not seem too concerned, am I worrying needlessly or is there something more, I have thought of kidney illness or diabetes, but he seems to fit into neither category, I do notice his eyes look glazed when he is unwell.
Just thought you might all beable to offer me some suggestions, if he goes down-hill I will just take him to the vet and get him checked.
BTW he did not appear to have a temperature, to my knowledge, maybe he has a viral infection or something, he is vaccinated for cat flue so its not that.
Unfortunately I cannot check his poop and pee as he always goes outside, I have never seen him in the act.

Poor Ashes. I've always had indoor kitties so I don't have much advice to offer. All I can do is send lots and lots of prayers that it's nothing serious. Please keep us updated and give Ashes some kissies from me.

I always recommend an inside litter tray, even for inside/outside cats.

Carole, please would you consider providing Ash with an litter tray, so he doesn't have to drag himself outside when he feels unwell and maybe a vet might like a fresh sample.
I hope Ash feels better very soon :(

I don't have any advice, but I sure hope Ash feels better soon. It could be the bird. My mom's cat has acted the same way before and she always notices it after he's caught a bird or chipmunk.
Get better soon Ash! :)

Yes Jenny I have been thinking that would be a good idea, but I am not sure he would even bother to use an indoor litter tray, he does not seem to want to stay inside, I let him out , thinking maybe he needed the toilet, and I checked the verandah, sure enough there he is sitting on his outdoor chair, I went and took him inside, risking getting scratched to bits, he was growling and most unhappy, but he is now inside warm, much to his dislike, silly ole fella.
He has improved , but I am hoping he will improve a lot more yet, and of courseI will take him to the vet if he does not improve in the next few days or gets worse.
Thanks for all the kind words, I always worry myself sick when my furbabies are not in tip-top shape.

Thank you all, I will let you know how his Day went, he was determined to stay outside, which is really unlike him, if its cold and it was , or he is sick he loves to be inside as close to His heater as possible, nevertheless I made him stay inside, and he did, when the heater was not on I heated my wheat pack up, wrapped it up in his blanket and put it beside him and kept him warm.
He ate well today, so that is something, but I was worried as I had not seen him drink, but good news he did tonight.
I am really confused, as what could be the matter, normally if he is sick he has a temp, drinks lots of water and likes to keep warm, this time he is doing the opposite.
He is definitely out of sorts, and not himself, he looks sad in his face.
He did pick up today though, and I hope this is encouraging, and it is just that darn bird he ate.
I am going to keep a very close watchful eye on my furbaby, I always notice when they are off colour, even if it is just minor, as i spend so much time with them, and no my furbabies so well.
Thanks again for all the well wishes, I am certain they are helping my old boy recover., fingers and paws crossed he does a complete turnaround tomorrow and is back to normal soon.

Thanks again all of you, Ash is no worse, he might even be a bit better, but something is not right for sure, he is not so keen on his biscuits this morning, but then he is a red meat boy, and even though he has good quality , yummy tasting biscuits (lexie tells me this) he often turns his nose up at them, so nothing unusual there, I am going to get him some nice fresh fish from the supermarket today, I think he will like that, I know when I am sick I often feel like something yummy and different, so I think a treat is in order.
He woke me up this morning by jumping across me in the bed, so that is a good sign, yesterday he just slept until I got up at 7 am, he looks a little more bright eyed and bushy tailed, but we are not out of the woods yet, I can tell he is not better yet.
Even though Ash is a grumpy old soul and very scarey sometimes, when he is sick he is a sweetheart, and lets me tend to him, its like he knows I am trying to help him.
He is settled now asleep in his fav place (all winter long) in front of the heater, where else? will keep you all posted if any change.
All your get well wishes are working I am certain of that, the power of PT is very powerful.:)

Ash seems back to his normal self again, this sure was puzzling, I had another thought, I had just given him his flea treatment, I have been using advantage for sometime now, at least 2 yrs, I did not get it quite in the right place and he could lick it , could this have caused and adverse reaction, i alway's thought it did them no harm only tasted bitter, but who knows, it could be a pure concidence and nothing to do with it, maybe it was just the bird.
I am relieved to see him pick up again, I was very worried, and it was only a matter of time before he was off to the white coats, thanks everyone your prayers and good wishes worked., yet again!!!:)
