On Monday my mom found a dog on the highway coming home from the vet!
She looks like a sheltie mix and is really cute!
We took her to the vet today and she is not pregnant and has no heartworms! YAY:)
and she got her vaccinations....which she did NOT scream or try to move away from the vet!
She amazes me with how good she is,
Even though she wasn't taken care of!
She has the huge matts all over her body to the point where you can't even feel her skin,
She has had puppies before because her teats are sagged, and
her fur color is black but has been bleached by the sun and is now red!
The vet showed us a bit of black where it wasn't badly matted!
She is also an intelligent dog!
I'm teaching her to sit and she's doing well but she has already learned not to jump on people!
I love her and hope my mom lets me keep her!
She is acually thinking about it and if she does then I'll see if I can take her to obediance and then hopefully agility because she is wonderful with my dogs so I know she could be grea with others!(At the vet she was wonderful!)
that's great that you may keep her! it would be a happy ever after story. pics?

well she hasn't been around all our animals but she keeps out of the way of cats and vise versa(I think she's scarred of them) My doberman and guinea pig have welcomed her into the family though!!
My german sheperds just think she's a nuisance so basically non of my naimls like aeach so she fits right in!:)
haha....sounds like my house. my husky hates my pomeranian,my pom hates my bird. they all hate each other.lol

Thank you for helping a dog in need, I am sure she appreciates that so much.
Forgive me if I am out of line, or missed a post or something. But you say you just found this dog on the orad Monday & you are already calling her your dog. Have you tried to locate the owner? Did you call animal shelters & vets to report it? Did you put adds in the paper and hang them arund your neighborhood? Did they check for a microchip?
The owners may be missing her. Even though she is matted and not well cared for there could be a good reason for that, maybe she has been missing for quite some time.
Don't get me wrong it is GREAT that she has a home if her home is not found I just wanted to make sure you at least are trying to find her home.

Like I'm sure I said my mom is with the humane society(as in she often volunteers,is friends with the owner, and they keep offering her a job there) so we have done as such.... Even the vet said that what happened to her didn't take over night but infact atleast 2 years so I doubt the owner is even looking for her now and I would also like to say that usually every animal that stays with I call my own it's not a big deal:)

Also it was last Monday and we've called the humane societies in the next counties and so fare no one has called us for the dog...
We will not put an add in the paper because people will call pretending to be the owner and just in reality they are just trying to get pit bull bait! (We live in a bad town)

Like I said, sorry if I missed a post, obviously I did as I did not know your mom volunteers there, also I thought it was just this Monday, when it was really 2 mondays ago.
I was just making sure as I know I would be devastated if someone found my dog & did not try to contact anyone about it.
As long as the vet confirmed it would have taken more than a couple months for the dog to get like that. Although some dogs are lost for years, then are re-united w/ their owners. Ya never know.
As far as the newspaper add, I understand where you are coming from, and not wanting the dog to be pit bull bait, but you can always print it w/ just the breed, age & location of where found, then have the owners tell you exactly what she looks like, a collor or not & her/his name to confirm it is their dog.
Thanks for giving such a sweet dog a loving home! Pics when you can LOL
